Right now my husband and I live in Germany, but we're trying to get back to the United States. If we stayed until December we would qualify for the the Foreign Income Exclusion. My question is, if we leave early (say July) what would our repurcussions be tax-wise? Thank you.

I work for the City of Philadelphia and I truly find it hard to believe they do not offer the Avacned Earn Income Credit Payment to their employees that make less than what they should. I qualify for this advance payment, I already checked with the IRS.

Please help

This is because I did not report my stock trades for year 2005.
I actually had shor term loss. I was a day trader and did not feel like entering 150 transaction into tax file. Now IRS sent me a error report saying that I did not report my sale of stocks.

IRS asks me to confirm the sale of the stocks for year 2005. No purchase information has been asked by IRS. Shoudn't I enter both purchase and sale?

If I just report sale of stocks, will I be paying taxes for those sale? I did not hold any stocks for more then couple months.

Please suggest what should I do.

I know there are different tax rates based on how long you hold onto a stock. Is there a similar rule based on the % change in value? For example, if your stock goes up 10% vs 50%.

If social security is estimated to last until 2041 and medicare until 2019 ( in either case by the time I reach retirement , these funds will be depleted)..why do they continue to take these out of my paycheck? As my parents generation were working, didn't the money they put in go to fund their generations benefits? Why is money taken out of the younger generations benefits if they will not be able to benefit from it;. Couldn't I just take that money and invest it myself? Thanks

In this movie, a woman owes $500 in taxes on her home. The government therefore confiscates her home, leaving her with no cash and nowhere to sleep except her car.

In reality, if this happened, wouldn't the government take your house, auction it, then take the owed taxes from the proceeds, and then give you the change (in this case thousands of dollars)?

If so, this movie doesn't make a lick of sense.

because I've heard urban legends (?) to the effect that some people have successfully used this as an excuse for not paying. What is the status of this legend?

If I start a business doing something I go to school for, can I deduct all of my college tuition as a business expense or just the interest? I figure I wouldn't be able to start a business without the training so I was thinking that all of my tuition would be a valid expense. However, I don't know all of the tax laws in the U.S.

I work as an intern for my church and only make $1,000 a month. I know very little about taxes, but I have heard that if your income is below a certain amount that there is a way to get a tax return either in part or full. Can anyone verify or help me out with this, thanks.

Hey everybody, My father died about two years ago. He didn't have much of anything but we inherited his house which we just sold this house last month. After our expenses (painting the house, real estate fees, power bills) we will each get $10k.

How do taxes on this work? I would think that we'll have to report the money on our 2007 taxes but I want to make sure.

Thanks for your help,
Jim
