Call the IRS immediately and let them know that you lost your check, they will input into the computer that the check has been lost and that will stop payment on that check, they will reissue the check once it is confirmed that it has not already been cashed. Call 1-800-829-0922

You need to also call your State and notify them immediately.

First of all MASTER do not judge these people you have no idea whats happening in their household. I am in the process of having to file a chapter 7 and I'm not proud of it nor am I trying to get by without paying what I owe, I just don't have it. And no I don't owe unnecessary items, but if I did that's my business and not yours. I love it when people that have never walked a day in my shoes and the first to judge me.

They'll reissue them, but it can take awhile. Call the IRS and the state revenue dept and ask them.

File form 3911 (see link in sources) for the federal refund.

Most states have a similar process. Call their taxpayer help line and proceed from there.

not until they've discovered that the checks have NOT been cashed, which may take 2-6 mnths.
