my childs father called me up trying to get me to drop child support being that he is broke from oweing the irs. he rushes to claim my child before me. he has been claiming my child every year i have to proove to them that my child lives with me. its been like this for 8 yrs now. even though i got my refund back late due to him filing first a friend of mines told me that the irs owes me money anyways for the wait and the rejection. i need to know how true that is.

I recently graduated college in May 06 in New York. Sen. Chuck Schumer spoke at our commencement, saying that he would grant/pass law/ something regarding a $4000 tax credit for parents of students paying tuition. My question is this:

1.) Has anyone heard of or know of this? Let me say that I have searched for it in the State and Federal Tax code and haven't found it. And if anyone has heard of it...

2.) Could I myself claim the credit because as a student I paid my own way independent of parent. I am an older student who returned to college. Any help would be great.

3.) Anyone know a Tax professional I could ask about this in the Rochester NY area for a minimum fee?

my childs father files my child on his refund every year for 8 yrs, she never lived with him she always lived with me. he always rushes and claims her before i can. then im stuck prooving to the irs that she stays with me. then he owes them money, i later on get my refund. every year i have to wait because he gets the refund back before me. he had filed bankrupcy due to oweing irs, does that mean that for every year he claimed and i was rejected the irs owes me money?

For the last many years I have received a full refund on federal and state income taxes due to my numerous deductions (HOH, 2 little ones, myself, etc.). Now I'm married. What's the best way? Joint or seperate? He's a farmer - he's at a loss this year due to the drought and will not be able to show any profit. Will I still get back a full refund if I file seperate or will I lose that since I'm not longer head of household and single?

I have two separate home businesses. Both are computer-based and I use the same home office. When you are filling out the home use and expenses part, do you fill out the same amounts, ie. your home utilities, computer purchases and expenses, for each home business?
