Letter came from a collection agency from CA. We don't have any idea where our records could be from 1990 thought we only had to keep for 7 yrs. Even bank mirco only goes back 10 yrs. First we have heard that our taxes were not considered right. Collection agency says amount is substantial. We know that taxes were deducded by employer and that we filed each year. Don't know what we are getting into by calling this collection agency. Are fearful (as are most people) about calling the state of VA dept. of taxation without having records that go back 16 years.

A corporation can earn 7.5% if it invests in municipal bonds. The corporation can also earn 8.5% (before tax) by investing in preferred stock. Assume that the two investments have equal risk. What is the break-even corporate tax rate which makes the corporation indifferent between the two investments?

I’m in a dispute with IRS over my 2004 taxes. Back in 2005, I carefully included all my W2s in 2004 tax return. Now problem is that I have one particular W2 form, but IRS has no record of it. Furthermore, the company that issued me that W2 is out of business now.

What should I do now? Will I be responsible for mistake in W2 form made by my employer?

Six years ago I attempted to buy a condo, but the seller tried to void the contract and would not release my earnest money. I decided to take him to court and since then I have bought another place and moved again. We finally settled the case this year. Part of the settlement was to release the property, but since I had no interest in actually purchasing the property I immediately (same closing) sold the property to another party which was all part of the deal. I netted just under $12,000 and never took possession of the property. How will I be taxed on this money? So far I have not received any tax documentation - only a settlement statement.

Ok, it all started in 2004 or 2003 I think when I needed to fill out an electronic signature to finish the taxes and I never sent it in... yeah, my bad. so I dont know if they went through, and never kept track of my bank account to see the refund... then in 05 I ran into the same thing when they asked for my taxable income from the last time I filed... so it snowballed until now... and im ready to face the facts... is there anyone I can contact or any service that will pull up my history and help resolve past years so I can move on with my life!? yeah... and I need to do them this year as well but my anxiety about the whole thing has caused me to delay it, im a pretty basic person, no dependents, not married... and i should have probably gotten a refund for every year.. thank you for any help...

She is only 12 years of age and I paid her a total of $1560.00 last year (filed an extension - lol) for afterschool watching and school holiday watching and summer care. ($30-50 per week depending). So she paid no taxes. Is she required to file if I list it on my taxes with her SSN? Thanks for any help out there.

On October 1, 2005, I bought a business which included a used delivery truck being used exclusively for my business. The used delivery truck was estimated to be $6K. I am trying to finish up 2005 tax return (Schedule c) which was extended. Here is my question on deducting the use of the truck.

I can take section 179 in 2005 and expense entire 6K, right? In that case, I guess I can not use mileage deductions any more beginning 2006.
Or I can use mileage deduction for 2005 and continue to use the mileage method.
But I found some where that if I depreciate my truck the first year using straight line method, I can use mileage method for 2005 and there after as well. What do you think is the best solution?
For your information, my mileage per month is about 1,000 miles. Thank you so much.
