Good question. I think it's insane that post offices are closed. Are all the postal workers sitting at home lighting a candle for Gerald Ford? I don't think so.

I actually "looked this up" on all the proper websites- the feds are closed and it was officially issued that:
All national banks or banks in states where the Governors or proper authorities are recognizing the holiday MAY BE CLOSED. Banks are not allowed to be closed for more than 3 days- so if some banks were closed on Saturday - they would need to be open Tuesday. It is the banks descetion- not a requirment- so check online websites or call your banks.

Well, that's annoying. So we have to wait from Saturday all the way to Wednesday to get mail, just because someone died whose death, frankly, has no current impact on the life of the average person. I can't even say it's a shame the guy died, because he lived a full, long life and he was going to die sooner or later. The post office was already closed on Monday. Surely that should have been enough, but the greed extends from jacking up the postal rates as often as possible to grabbing extra vacation time whenever opportunity arises. No wonder so many people are using e-mail or text messages whenever possible rather than going through the rip-off post office.

All federal offices are closed. Some local banks and state banks may be opened. You know a bank is a federal bank if it has the word national or similar in its title, i.e. First National, Old National, etc.

I didn't realize that it was a holiday - thanks for letting me know. Not only will the banks be closed, but the post office and all federal buildings.
I don't think it's right, but no much we can do about it.
