there is no set limit really. a lot of it depends on the difficulty of the return. it can go upwards of $500 just for an individual. businesses pay much more. but if you itemize your deductions you are allowed to take out the fee for preparation.

They can charge whatever they wish and whatever you're willing to pay. The only restriction is that a tax return preparer is not allowed to charge based upon the size of your refund.

Most tax return preparers charge based upon the complexity of the return and how much time it takes to prepare your return.
