I have a student loan interested balance of about $1,100 that was accrued over 2005 and 2006. I was wondering if there is a way for me to write out a check for this amount and claim it as a credit this year? Is it too late even though the interest was for 2005/2006 to earn the credit?

My mom visited me from africa and she's been living with me since Dec, 2005. Since I supported her all through the year and she was dependent on me, can I claim her as a dependent when filing my tax? The problem is she doesn't have a SSN and the IRS requires this to claim someone. Is there any other way I can do this?

A small LLC I have set up had roughly $5000 in revenue in 2006, but I just left all the money in the account and didn't take any of it out. Do I have to pay taxes on it now, or not until I distribute it from the account to myself (probably sometime in 2007) ?

We never considered ourselves married, he never called me his wife, i never called him my husband....we didnt' have joint accounts - no checking, savings, no joint credit cards....and the fact of the matter is, he married his ex wife if 2005 during the time that he is claiming to be common law married to me.....we aren't married.....and changing your tax returns to show married and claiming my son as his son.....that's fraud......

I made less than $12,000 last year, all from Social Security. I'm single, and didn't have any taxes deducted. Do I owe anything to the IRS?

my ex boyfriend is trying to claim being common law married to him because he is in debt. we have never filed taxes together because we are not married. we both filed separate, individual taxes claiming our own children, we have no kids together.
he changed his 2005 tax return to married and claimed my son - to which he has no legal guardianship - we never married and he never adopted my son - i'm pretty sure this is tax fraud, but wanted to ask the very smart yahoo people out there what they thought. thanks so much

I did my federal return with Taxcut. The software informed me that, since I jointly own my home with someone else, I have to write out a statement detailing how the mortgage interest is being claimed and submit it with my return. What does that kind of statement entail? Are we just talking about a typical business letter here?

I've owned a home for 4 years and lived in it for 3. This past year, I've been renting it out since I'm now living overseas (Military tour). I know that the interest and taxes are deductible, but the rental payments are taxable. I also understand that any expenses (i.e. repairs) are deductible.
My question is, what other things do I need to know about filing taxes as it relates to my rental property? Particularly, can I count depreciation of the property and how is depreciation calculated?

I have just seen my paystub and to my horror I noticed a section labeled "Tax Lien". The amount payed equals my entire paycheck of two weeks. The only money I owe is to the IRS for 2005. I had an arrangement with them to pay $200 a month and was unable to pay them last month. Are they allowed to garnish my entire paycheck? I have a one year old, my wife had the flu and missed a week of work, and most of our finances in the bank were withdrawn for Christmas.. I owe money for a Car Payment, Utilities, and Rent... I do not know how I am going to feed my wife and baby.

I was never notified by the payroll department of my employer of any agreement they had made by the IRS, nor was I notified by the IRS that they would be doing this..

He is in jail over 4.5 hours away from me and about to be sent to State Jail even further away. I don't have a car or a ride to go get his signature. I had to go back to work to support our 3 children. We desperately need the tax return. He made most (90%) of our income last year and paid in around $10,000 in taxes and we anticipate around $5,000 back. I am thinking I may be able to E-FILE with electronic signatures and have his permission to do whatever it takes. I wonder though is it LEGAL for me to do electronic signature on his behalf?

I will buy tax software and file my federal returns electronically. I have heard that you still have forms to mail to the IRS even if you file electronically.
Can someone tell me if you still need to mail in forms to the IRS if you file electronically? Also, if you buy the software like TurboTax, does it contain everything you might possible need to file your federal returns?
Thanks,
