I claim only myself on my W-4 (so that I don't owe as much at the end of the year), but when I file for my return, I claim myself and my son as a dependent. I've earned only about $30,000 this year.

If you can figure it out, great... Or, can you just tell me how to figure it out? I'm new at this... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a form 1040 (the full deal, the blue one) and the instruction packet. You'll find within that Schedule EIC and all the tables and such you'll need. The cites below are Schedule EIC itself and the instructions.

If it's you and your son, you're filing as head of household, and your income is $30,000.00, your EIC will be $310.00. If you need more help, update your question to let me know.

Go to irs.gov and look it up on the EIC charts.
