By etc., I mean she claimed she had to spend a lot of money to clean it. The only other claims she stated was a cheap light fixture that fell from the ceiling lamp (and could have hurt someone) and a small cabinet drawer. That's it. She just said the money ran out. I live in Colorado and if I hire an attorney it might not be worth it to take her to court. Do I have any other options?

I'll try to make this short as I can. My neighbor bought a house down the street from me, but then her and her husband split up. She moved back to Scotland and he went off to do contract work out of U.S. The house has been empty for a few months. It's completely paid for, there is no mortgage or loan out on it. But it's in both of their names.

She asked me to find out how it works Stateside when a house is sold; does the money go to the agent who takes a cut and then passes the rest to the Seller? How and where does the money transfer before it gets to her. I've heard of an escrow account: what is that? Does the agent set that up?

She's leaning towards giving me power of attourney to help handle some of this. In this given situation I could really use a basic run-down on the best way to proceed that will benefit her the most.

Her and her ex are working out a deal that will hopefully sign it all over to her and do away with the joint ownership, but she will split profit.

I am torn between two situations...

My husband and I found a wonderful litle townhome, and we have already figured out that payments and everything, and they will be about 1000 per month!

OR---we can downsize our apartment now which is 1000 per month and get a tiny one bedroom for like 850 per month!

The problem is- we dont have TOO much money!
I going to be getting a part time job soon though.....so, that might help a little bit!

What should I do?

My husband and I are discussing moving roughly half way across the country (NC to TX or NC to Tampa). We are a young couple without much stuff yet--a bedroom and a kitchen. Then just a couch, love seat, and futon.

Between closing costs, loan fees until your old house sells, when you put security and rent on a month to month apartment, and the amount you spent before the paychecks (or company reimbursement for moving costs) comes in--how many thousands have you gone through?

Someone else asked this question--the answer was sell everything you own. That is not an option. We've worked hard to get nice items, and I'm not throwing everything away just to move somewhere and buy it all again. Thats dumb.

How much do you think it would cost for a couple to move across country? If you are a young couple who moved recently--how far did you move and when did you move? Thanks!

Im trying to get a home loan. I was pre-approved by 5 different places. A couple weeks later I found my dream house. Now when it comes time to actually get my mortgage the guy at weichert financial tells me he's not sure if its gonna happen. Can I start looking at another company to get me financed. He said that if he cant do it than no one can, but I dont believe that. I know that are credit sucks but we make decent money and have no debt. So will it mess anything up if I start looking elsewhere. Im not looking for another pre-appoval. Im looking for a loan.

I signed a lease which began in August, but due to both my husband and myself accepting jobs in another town, I need to get out. Is there I way for me to get out?
We are both on the lease but I am the only one who signed, does this make a difference?

I was an underwriter for mortgage company for over 10 years and would like to change career due to instability in the industry. Being an Actuary sounds very appealing . I have masters degree in finance and experience in analysing financial statements. However I don't remember much about Statistics, Calculus, lineal algebra and differential equations. How hard it to pass the test? Do you suggest any other related field?

I am leasing a house in Arkansas. I have lived here for the past 3 years. My lease is due again in October and I am planning on moving by then. My problem is that I feel my privacy is severly invaded. My landlord lives out of state and she showed up knocking at my door a little over a week ago. She gave me no warning and has been to my house everyday since arriving. I feel that a notice would have been nice but I allowed her in to check things that she felt was necessesary anyway. She wanted to just look at the house and check lights. She continues to come to the door wanting to check something different. Today she brought a man with her. I am fed up. Do I have any rights about her being here? She also hired someone to replace some rotten boards around the garage door and hired someone to brushhog the outer areas of the property. She showed up wanting 160.00 from me for this. I never agreed to this. Yes, I will be moving, but do I have to tolerate this invasion of my privacy?

I am looking into buying a small house in about a year or two. I would have about 15-20% of the down payment.

However, I want to move across the country and get a job in a new city. Would I have to be employed for a certain amount of months/years at the same job in this new city to be considered for a mortgage? I am thinking I would probably have to rent for while???? I am only 23 and have a very stable past as far as jobs and credit.

I currently only have 1 credit credit and I pay the whole thing off each month. I don't have any store credit cards. In addition, I have a savings and checking account. My parents helped pay for college...so I have no student loans or car loans to worry about?!?!

But what else should I be doing to help my credit or being approved for a loan in the future?!?!

Thanks in advance for any tips!!!

I was renting an apartment with a roommate. I moved out of the property (roommate stayed) giving the landlord written notice that I was moving and the security deposit should remain on the current account. This letter was accepted and I thought all was well and finished, however, I recently was notified that I am still being held responsible for the account there at the property because my roommate didn't give written notice that she was aware that I moved out and she agreed to have the deposit remain on her account. Is the legal?

We're paying cash for a house out of foreclosure. To negotiate with the bank we're going to include the house inspection report with our offer. We're hoping to get $ taken off since there is structure damage they are underestimating (bottom of back of house in the basement has a crack from top to bottom).

If we include an appraisal, would that tell us the market value as is with all the problems it has?

Okay...I need some major advice!
I dont know what to do anymore.....I am freaking out because I feel as though I am in way over my head!

So, my husband is in the military, and I am in college. We dont make that much money because I do not work!!! I am planning on getting a part-time job which will help out a little but not a lot!
So, we had to get a new car because our other one was falling apart, so now since we have a car payment we need to have a cheaper amount of rent we pay each month. Well, we live in an expensive neighborhood, and we pay about 1000 per month now for rent. I love the place that I am at now, and to downsize we can either get a ONE BEDROOM ONE BATH--Or a TWO BED TWO BATH!
The one bed is about 800 per month, and the two bed is 900 per month!
ALSO-we found a really cheap twonhome that would cost us 950-1000 per month TO OWN! My hubby really wants it, but I just dont know if we
So, we wouldnt be saving that much money!
I really do not know what to do anymore

If he sold his own house to a family member, so pretty much he was the agent for the buyer (family member) and seller (himself) .

The house sold for $500,000.

Also, will he have to pay any fees for doing it this way? If so, about how much?

About how much will he get to pocket off this?

If it makes any difference, he works for Coldwell Banker.

If you were the buyer, would you expect to pay the closing cost or split it?

Thanks All!

I got a notice on my door saying the Health Department was going to inspect our apartment (and others but I dont know if it is only in our building or the whole complex). We called the front office because in 7 yrs of apartment living we had never heard of such a thing. They told us there was an infestation of roaches. We have not had any trouble with roaches or any pests so I was wondering how bad it has to be for the Health Department to be brought in? Its an average apt complex.... not skanky but nothing high scale. What would the Health department do if there is a bad infestation?

Here is the situation:
I moved out of my apartment in New Jersey last month after being there 2 years. Before we left we cleaned the apartment thoroughly and rented a steam carpet cleaner and cleaned the carpets. Now a month later, I get a letter from my landlord that not only is he keeping my entire security deposit, he wants me to send him another $200 to cover the costs of cleaning the apartment. That is over $1200 total!

He is asking for me to pay for things such as plumbing, garbage disposal. Clean Walls and Ceiling (Ceiling? WTF?) Replace the screen door, the arm on the door had rusted off. It was old. Clean Blinds. Patch nail holes from pictures.

Keep in mind, none of this stuff was done before we moved in. The carpet was atleast 2 years old before we moved in. He did not paint or fix holes from previous tenant. As a matter of fact, when we moved in, we had to clean out the storage unit that was full of junk.

Anyone know anything about NJ tenant rights?
