I got a notice on my door saying the Health Department was going to inspect our apartment (and others but I dont know if it is only in our building or the whole complex). We called the front office because in 7 yrs of apartment living we had never heard of such a thing. They told us there was an infestation of roaches. We have not had any trouble with roaches or any pests so I was wondering how bad it has to be for the Health Department to be brought in? Its an average apt complex.... not skanky but nothing high scale. What would the Health department do if there is a bad infestation?

They would make the building owners hire a pest company. The worst that could happen is they put poison around your baseboards and in the cupboards under the sink. They could put a big tent over the building and poison the air. You would need to cover all food then might want to wash all dishes and counters after.

If the Health Department confirms there is a roach problem, they will probably give the owner a notice to resolve the issue with a completion date.

I would think someone in the apts must have complained to the health dept about roaches and now they have to check it out. If they do find them they will probbley give the apt owners so much time to get rid of them. There probbley checking out different apts to see how bad they are because roaches spread fast. They will have to hire someone to come in and get rid of them a exterminator service.
