I was an underwriter for mortgage company for over 10 years and would like to change career due to instability in the industry. Being an Actuary sounds very appealing . I have masters degree in finance and experience in analysing financial statements. However I don't remember much about Statistics, Calculus, lineal algebra and differential equations. How hard it to pass the test? Do you suggest any other related field?

last I heard the Actuarial exams had 10 parts and were far tougher than the CPA exams. You really had to know your stuff to pass the Actuarial exams.

Have you been underwriting commercial insurance or personal lines? If commercial, I'd think your analysis experience might transfer fairly well to other commercial support ventures such as lending and/or debt rating service.
