I have a condo that I bought for $223,500 about 1-1/2 years ago. I initially had a 30-year loan of about $123,500. Considering the tax benefits for interest deductions versus added costs for interest payments, is it better (from a financial perspective) to continue my monthly mortgage payments OR to buy the condo in full with money from my mutual funds?

I received a notice of eviction if I don't pay my January rent and the Security deposit by Monday. Is it legal to just give a 3 day notice to pay? I owe $1200 total, $450 security deposit that bounced and $750 for January rent that was due on the 1st.

I know I am responsible to pay that but what do I need to do? Do I call the bank and request a payoff or do I make the monthly payments on that loan? Can I do this if the first is in the buyers name?

I'll be moving to Cleveland in a few months. I'm not real familiar with the area. I've heard the Coventry area is nice, also Shaker Heights, and possibly Lakewood. I would like to be somewhere that is within walking distance to parks, shops, and restaurants. I guess most importantly, which areas do I need to stay away from while looking for a good apartment?

Yes, just wondering if anyone out there lived "under" their means for yrs.&yrs. in a little apartment for well over a decade and u just kinda felt STUCK while getting in too much of a habit w/saving money
that's our situation. feel as if I'm trapped in the twilight zone, lol~you know noisey neighbors,ect,...not enough livin space
how did u break out of the comfort zone eventually when u felt all stuck forever?
getting pretty tired of this......we'll have to take the leap at some point and just go for it!
what was ur experience?

When I signed my lease, I was informed I would be gettting $100 off my rent for six months. Im just starting my first job, and with that stress, I didn't realize when my six months were up. I got a call saying that it went up in November and they were demanding that I pay them $200 immediately. I simply cannot afford this right now. Do I even have to pay it? They never notified me of the increase, it is not in writing in my lease. Im putting a stop payment on the check until I get legal advice and talk to the manager.

I'm moving into a new apartment and me and the other person are deciding on who gets what bedroom. Both are pretty equal in size. One is just longer and narrow and the other is more square shaped. My roommate would like the square bedroom because she thinks it's larger and she is the one who found the apartment. I didn't mind until I realized the other bedroom is actually smaller than my current bedroom and it would require me possibly having to get rid of two pieces of furniture in my bedroom. We spoke about it today and she said she didn't want me to have to do that, but she still hung on to the fact that she'd like the "larger" bedroom. Bottom line is I have larger furniture that might not fit in the long and narrow bedroom. If I take the square bedroom I can keep everything which I'd like to do for storage purposes. Is she right that since she found the apartment, she should get which bedroom she likes? If not, how can I politely say that I need the square bedroom?

My friend is giving the tenents a 30 day notice to vacate. (he wants to move into the house) I do not want him to move into the house. Can he do this with out my consent? I have countered this notice with a reversal letter, stating that the renter do not have to move out. He has now countered my letter telling them they have to move out. My attorney is out of the country and I am unsure my rights. It would make sense that I would have to consent with anything that goes on with that house. I am giving him the oportunity to buy the property from me and get my name off the deed, but he swears he has the right to tell the renters to move and move in the house himself with out my consent. Is he right?

My mom has rented a home for 4 years. In Nov, a problem with the plumbing left the cold water not working to the toilet; the bathroom sink must be on and it fills the toilet with only very hot water. The water bill and heat bill reflect the problem. The washer that the original lease said the landlord would provide & maintain broke. She told him of both issues before thanksgiving.

He did not do anything to repair either problem. She didn't pay rent in Dec, and he came over in midmonth to let her know he was planning on selling the house (will get torn down). He didn't give a date. Or fix the problems. Or demand rent.

She withheld January rent too. Plans on moving 2/1/07. Today landlord came over saying he wants her out 1/16/07 or he's going to sheriff. Doesn't he have to go through the eviction process for nonpayment? Or give her a written notice 30 days before the 1st of the month? After 1st yr they never signed a new lease, so went to month-to-month. In Iowa. THANKS
