Renting & Real Estate - January 2007

I have just moved into my first house that im renting.
There are loads of little problems with it such as mouldy taps/cracks in doors/broken wardrobes etc.
There is no lock on the backgate and the house is next to a busy alleyway. The anti-theft strips have been removed from the wall. This means anyone could break-in so easy.
I have rang the letting agent everyday since ive been there about these things but he keeps fobbing me off saying he will talk to the landlord.
I dont want to keep nagging at them about it but im scared when the contract ends I will get the blame for all these things and lose my £700 deposit.
What can I do to make sure this dont happen??

So there's this condo that's being constructed and they have 500 sq ft apartments which are well within my budget. Is it too small for 1 person? I mean I earn a decent living and want to live in a nice place, so will it be nice and stuff or will I feel poor and like a foolcock?

My wife and I are going live in Austin TX where is gets very HOT. We are going back and forth on the idea of putting in a pool in our back yard or purchasing a new boat to enjoy the lakes here in Austin. Their are pros and cons to both, and they will each cost about the same price. One i can take with me when if and when we move and the other i cant. One we can easily enjoy 7 days a week while the other we cant. The pool seems to make the most sense, however I am concerned that I will be throwing away half the cost of the pool when we decide to sell the house. No one is going to give you 40-50k over the price of the house because it has a pool. So I am torn, pool or boat?

Hey all...

I'm thinking about moving to Virginia. I'm looking for areas that have decent amounts of land (husband is a mechanic and wants to build a garage) in the $200,000-$250,000 price range. Good school systems too. Might want to stay close to Norfolk, Fredricksburg, or Richmond areas to transfer within my current job.

Anyway, any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Is this illegal. They went to transfer my electricity in my new house frrom the landlords to my name. They cut it off Friday and never cut it back on. I called GA Power and they said their first appt to turn it back on was Monday. I had no where else for my baby to stay so I had someone cut the electricity back on. What will my punishment be? They are coming to cut it on today and well..... It is already on.

My brother is building a house well beyond his means. I am also looking to buy a house myself, however, within a threshold I can afford. Every opportunity my brother has he boasts about the luxurious home him & his wife will being living in. Example of the boasting: He asks me how many square feet will you have?" I state about 1,700 - he replies "My basement is 1,700 feet". Furthermore this dream home is $400,000 with the combined salary of him & his wife being $115,000 per year. With these salaries and no money given from parents -is this something he can even afford?

Can The Landlord At That Point Decide To Change His Mind On The Set Terms And Raise The Rent&Switch The Time Period From 3 More Years To A Month To Month? The Lease Has Been Signed By Both Parties! It Clearly States That It Is For 2-3 Year Terms And That The Renewal Of The Lease (The 2nd Half) Will Be The Same As The First. Can He Change His Mind After He Has Already Agreed To These Terms And Signed?

hi there,

i am furious,i am due to move out of my flat on the 1st of february and over the weekend there was a knock on the door, it was the new tenant who is by the way homeless. my landlord had given him a key and he wanted to know when i was moving out, he said that my landlord had told him to come and go as he pleases. is there anything that i can do, i have been on to the landlords associatioon but he is out of their juristiction, CAB advised me to call them and i really dont want him to get away with handing out keys to my flat to complete strangers, bad form!

if anyone knows if i can take legal action against him, or where to report him to that would be great thank you

How can I remove his name from the deed without having him sign a quit claim? What will happen if she dies before the names are changed? Would the ex husband reclaim the house?is that possible?

We currently live in this house. But going to make a bid on a new home. Not sure if we should rent it out or sell it. If we sell it its paid off, end of story. Rent will bring in mortgage payment plus extra, with monthly headache of renter. We have one rental so far. This would be our second. What would you do?
