Renting & Real Estate - December 2006

[Selected]: All categories Business & Finance Renting & Real Estate

My husband was laid off some months ago, it's been really tough. We've been late on our rent three months in the past six months. My husband landed a great job but doesn't start until after the new year. We've exhausted our savings and we're short on our December rent. I've tried to work something out with our landlord, but he won't accept our rent late any more and he's charged us $139 plus $5.00 per day until the rent was received for every month that we've been late. So, we owe him a lot of money in late fees and I'm short on the rent. Should we just give the money we have now and give notice? And if we give notice, can he still evict us? Any help would be great, and any tips on where to go for legal advice? (He required 1st month, last month plus a deposit to move in, so he's holding a large amount of money from us)

I live in a family members house and I have been making repairs to the house. We never discussed any payments for the house, when I moved in the house was in bad shape and she told me that if I fixed it up then I could stay here. Today December 20th I get a letter in my mailbox from her stating that if I plan to stay here any longer I need to pay rent or be out by January 1st. The letter does not mention any rent amount that she expects for me to pay-is this legal or does she have to provide me with a 30 day notice?

There was rat poop in the cupboards and windows were non secure. The Owner wants to keep 1st mo rent. My roomy wants all the money back. My parents agree that the owner has a right to keep at least the 1st mo rent. HELP.

My family is under a tough time now. We have 2 little girls, we just bought our first home, and suddenly financial troubles hit. I lost my job, and although I am looking, I can't find another one. We have this timeshare that we have to make payments on every month. It's frustrating because we don't want the timeshare and we can't even afford to use it. We need the money to pay our bills. We just need to sell the timeshare, but we don't know what site will sell it fast. Please help.

You place an ad on craigslist, and you get urgent replies from yahoo.co.uk addresses. The people say they want to move in right away, sight unseen, and they need details. Then, they send you a check for way more than you asked for, and they want you to send them a refund check. Their check is no good, so you're stuck with the bag, and you have no idea who they are.

Let's expose the rip offs!

Renter has not paid rent since mid-November, has always been on time so we gave him some time, mistake. He has now gone to the city for help and they want us to take less than half.We do not have a lease because I thought it was easier to get him out if this happened, mistake. What are the steps to evict? My husband is waiting to have heart surgery and I am medically disabled so we are looking at the possibility of losing our home. Never will I be so stupid again, I promise! We live in New Hampshire.

Due to an unforseen job relocate, we have to sell our home. Problem is the feedback I recieved on the realtor caravan is that we over-priced. I am not looking to make a dime. I just need to sell the house for what our mortgage is and pay the realtor.

I am currently in a Land Contract and I have heard that if the house has a Lien on it that the Land Contract is Void? We have 4 months left on the Land Contract and have realised this house has to many problems and don't want to buy it. We just found out that there is a Lien on the house. We rushed into it and this is your first time trying to buy a home. We want to move but don't know if we have to wait till April or if the Land Contract is Void then can we move now? Thanks, Bill

I am closing on my first condo this week. I am wondering if it's customary to give my realtor (who has been working with me for months to find a place) and/or my mortgage broker (who pushed the loan through very quickly for me) a gift of some kind as a thank you after the deal is done.

I was wondering what your opinion is on what a good offer would be on a condo I found. I am totally in love with this condo I found in Wisconsin. It is a brand new complex 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. With a 2 car garage. It's completly gorgeous and I really want it. The price is 166900 but if I could get it for a little under that it would be great. Would an offer of 153900 be too low? Then if they do not take that go up a little?
