If I'm buying a home and want to exercise and sell some stock options to pay for part of it, is there something I can do to reduce the short term capital gain taxes? Specifically, does the 1031 exchange apply here?

My corp. has gone private so I'm no longer able to get stock. Sould I increase my pre-tax 401K contributions ( currently I 'm only contributing up tp the company match) or should I take the extra money (post tax) and open a Roth IRA?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks...Rob

I moved money from my regular checking account to a new one by typing in the ACH numbers from the bottom of my checks (and the amount to transfer). What's to stop someone else from taking my money that way? Every time I write a check, I give someone those magic ACH numbers.

I'm guessing there's a safety mechanism to prevent this theft, I just don't know what it is.

I've got a gift card from WalMart from a while back and I check the balance on the internet and it said I have like $10 left. However, I don't know if I can still use it. Can it expire? There is not date or anything on the card.

Recently Mother died and there are of us. The executor (a sibling) insists that the contents of her home be inventoried down to the last saucer. If the bulk of the beneficiaries (the other 5 of us) feel this is unnecessary can we stop this from happening?

The plan is 450mins 39.99 + taxes and surcharges so I'm guessing 50 a month. I think I can pay that, with my workstudy checks, I get at least 120 every two weeks and no real other bills except for credit cards, I plan to have paid by June. So what do you think Should I go for it?

I get child support and I work. He works too. Each of these incomes are the same amount. He says he shouldn't have to pay half the bills, since I get more with the child support. I think he should pay a third of all household bills. I have no debt, but he has car payment, credit cards, school loan. So he feels I should pay more due to this fact. I was thinking of giving him a 30 day notice or maybe a 90 day one. But I don't want to be without him. One last thing, it is hard for me to talk about money with him. It's like taking candy from a baby.

I have 19000 on a car loan at 7%, I got a life-of-the-loan Balance transfer offer from my CC at 3.99%.

Simple solution: Pay off the autoloan and see the benefits of 3.01% savings over the loan term.

Here is where the plot thickens, My total credit line: all cards combined is 36K, so if I where to pay the auto loan off with the CC BT thats 19K of debt , meaning my debt to credit line ratio will be 50% or more , Isnt that bad?

So does it make sense to pay the auto loan off, or is it smarter to take the hit at 7% ( I can afford the 1.8K extra over 5 years)but keep 36K credit line open?

I have been told, auto loans (and home loans) are said to be better debt than credit card debt.

Also having been approved for the 19K of autoloan, does that theoretically make my credit line at 36K+19K so the real debt ratio at this point is 19/ (36+19) or just 34%.

I do plan to buy a house in a year so keeping the FICO high is a priority.

What do you suggest?
