All of my salary is direct deposit into a checking account, and I would like to open a new account which I can split my salary and direct deposit $200 pre pay check (every two weeks) into it for particular purpose. This account is NOT for retirement, so I don't need an IRA account, for example, it might be a travel fund for next July, therefore I don't want to have easy access for this account during the saving period. Could anyone provide me information of saving tools. Thanks!

It is an escrow reimbursement check from my mortgage company. I paid the money into escrow. The bank has my ex husbands name on the check. I'd rather not have to go to him for a signature and explain to him that this is actually my money and he is not entitled to half of it.

I had both a checking a savings account at Navy Federal credit union. Last year the checking account was closed due to it having a negative balance. I still have the savings account, albeit with a small balance. I was wondering if I deposit an amount ( a large amount) in my savings would it stay in my savings or would the credit union apply it to the negative balance on the closed checking account?

According to the quicken glossary (http://www.quicken.com/glossary/notemplates/content/?liqnet), liquid net worth, is defined as "assets that can readily be turned into cash without a major loss in value; therefore, do not include ... funds already earmarked for other purposes."

For a person who is below retirement age and could convert retirement funds to immediate cash with a 40% or so penalty when all tax consequences are figured in, should that money be included or not included in the calculation of liquid net worth?

I plan on selling in 4 years, and I have a credit score around 750. Would the closing costs outweigh the monthly mortgage savings with a lower rate? It seems I bought my house when interest rates were the highest in the last couple of years, and they look like they've gone back down for a bit (hovering around 6.0-6.25)
