"still taking money" infers that they were previously taking money, and continue to do so. They would only be able to do that if you had provided them with your account information and authorized them to tap your account.
So, either the terms of your service when you did have an account allow them to continue billing you;
You didn't close your account properly (or they didn't), and you're still being billed;
They're evil, and they're tapping you for beer money.
You should make sure your account is definitely closed, as of whatever date. You should make contact them and request any refund due you back to (date), and to stop billing you for the closed account. You should speak to your bank about the situation if they do not take care of you.
