It is an escrow reimbursement check from my mortgage company. I paid the money into escrow. The bank has my ex husbands name on the check. I'd rather not have to go to him for a signature and explain to him that this is actually my money and he is not entitled to half of it.

Usually both signatures are required. You have several options:
-You can sign your name and see if the bank will accept it.
-You can call the place that issued the check and have them reissue another one made solely out to you.
-You can try writing "For deposit only" and then your account number on the back instead of signatures. As long as your name is on the pay to part of the check and the account that the check is being deposited into, this shouldn't be a problem.
-You can call your bank and ask them what they suggest.

With a personal check that was made out to me and my husband, I was the only one who signed it and it wasn't a problem. Not sure if the escrow reimbursement check has different restrictions though...you could at least try.

If you are just depositing it then you will not need two signatures, for cash back you would. But then some states have different laws so check with your bank they should be able to tell you what you can or cannot do.

Sorry...2 names=2signatures. If he is your EX, you should have a divorce agreement. If escrow reimbursement is awarded to you on it, you may be able to have them re-issue the check with only your name.

Just sign your name and put on the back 'deposit to' and your account number. Then deposit into your account and you should be able to draw on it. If you are depositing, you shouldn't need his signature. You would only need it if you were cashing it.

if you were going to cash it, you'd probably need both signatures. but if i were you I'd just write for deposit only on the back and then it wouldn't require a signature.
