For most poeple it's because they spend more than they make. They're idea of what is a neccesity is completely out of whack. We got by just fine before cellphones.

Get a few books from the library about personal finance. Personal Finance for Dummies is a good one. I think many people hate the idea of financial planning and dealing with money cause they feel like they don't know what to do. If you educate yourself on money, you won't hate it - you'll have it working for you, not the other way around. Good luck.
