In New Jersey-does an estate have to be inventoried?

Recently Mother died and there are of us. The executor (a sibling) insists that the contents of her home be inventoried down to the last saucer. If the bulk of the beneficiaries (the other 5 of us) feel this is unnecessary can we stop this from happening?
