None. I very seldom carry any cash at all anymore.
I get cash back from using my credit cards so I use those whenever possible. There are very few places that don't take credit cards. Even fast food places take plastic now.

I reckon to carry at anytime about £50 you need this to be available most times of the day. I'm not afraid to walk down any alleyways, when I was a little younger I would have welcomed any obstruction in the usual way. We must not give way to this sport of thing. Lets fight, we need too

I usually carry about $100. I use cash most of the time. I do not like the idea that my transactions are recorded in a database that could potentially be tracked and used at a later time. (Can anyone imagine that your health insurance wouldn't like the fact that you ate at McDonald's every day this week?). I never use preferred shopping cards for the same reason. My privacy is not worth the few cents you get back.
Good luck!

May i just comment, i cant believe some of the answers here!
what planet are some of these folks living on?? as far as i recall, not EVERY single place takes credit cards or has some sort of ATM machine stuff.... i just dont completely understand why you someone wouldnt carry at least five dollars of cash, simply for that reason....it makes no sense. not every store or every part of the world has been touched by the new forms of money.
i believe there should be a nice balance as to what form to carry your money.....you should have some cash (ok, not wads of cash, but i would say a good $100 at least). you never know what circumstances you could face. carry it along with your credit cards as well.
as for me, i always prefer to pay in cash....i dont have a credit card and a checking account, but i know what its like to be paying in with credit cards, checks and whatnot (i prefer cash). my parents mostly use their credit cards mostly to purchase bigger things that cost more. but they always carry at least a few hundred dollars of cash along with their credit cards.....they reserve their credit cards so to speak. and i think thats the best idea, and it will work for me as well!

As much money you can afford to lose without causing much worry, in the unfortunate case of theft or pickpocket.
