My hubby and I (not legally married) are spiralling towards being in debt. We both have good jobs and up until 2 months ago had everything on a great payment schedule - problem is that back in Nov he was in an accident and was out of work for a month. The "credit protection" company that was charging him all these months refused to help because the could not prove that him being out of work was thru no fault of his own. Either way it is now Dec and we want to start the new year off on the right foot. How do we go about paying down our debt WITHOUT involving one of those debt specialists? Ive read that the most effective way is to you it yourself but where do I begin? Id appreciate and FREE refrences, ideas and suggestions.

Thank you in advance.

Dont know if its relevant but we are about $8 to $10,000 in debt and now just a little over 30 days past due.

I have my credit account set up to take the full amount of the the credit balance directly out of my checking on the 28th of each month. I have read many different things about building a good credit score. Does paying off the full amount of my credit balance at the end of each month help or hurt my credit score? (any other ways to build a good credit score for a person who just got their first credit card would be helpful too, thanks)

Without tying in my personal credit? Do you know of any that will allow the credit to be under my business name only, by using my Federal Tax ID number? I have credit through two office supply vendors, a computer vendor and a gas vendor.

Does anyone know the deal on this situation in Kansas? What about if the creditor violated the FDCPA by divulging my business to a third party without my permission? Can I press them to leave me alone until I can get caught up on that basis? Does a creditor in the state of Kansas have the right to repo or do they have to do a replevin filing?

My last employer never received any garnishments and I worked there for 2 years. I have a new employer and I love this job. I really, really don't want them to find out about my debts - they are 6 years old, I just never have the money to pay them. Is there any way I can keep my creditors from finding out? Or at least keep them off the trail until I can get back on my feet and start paying a little to each every month?

My best friend asked me to cosign a loan to help her buy a car, because her car was totalled and she needs a way to get to work. Since she moved across the country and only knows me, if I don't help her, she has no way to get to work unless I drive her, so either way I'm stuck having to help one way or another.
If I do end up cosigning for a loan, will that affect the chances of me getting a loan in about 7 months? I plan on getting a new car next spring/summer and will need to loan some money from a bank. If I help my friend by cosigning for a loan, will that affect the chances of me getting my loan?
I have good credit right now.

I found a a fraudulent account on my credit report. Challenged the claim and the file was removed from my credit report. Now I am getting calls from a company called Tri-Financial out of New York state. They are a collection agency that has this fraudulent account and they are trying to collect. Here is the real problem: Since I stated that the account was a case of fraud they are claiming that they can claim fraud against me and they are going to file fraud charges with the district attorney in my county. I get calls stating a fraud case has been filed then I get more calls stating they are about to issue a warrant for fraud. Personally, I think this is a "scare tactic" they are using to attempt to collect on this account.

My question is...can they really file fraud charges or is this a scare tactic?

I'd like nothing more than to tell them to take their scare tactic and shove it.
