I want to start looking into the option of getting professional assistance to get out of debt. I'm not going to mention any numbers, but the debt my wife and I have accrued over the years is ... well, staggering.

Anyway, I know some company's are out to scam people, and I was wondering if their was any way to research various agencies?

I'm not sure of the term I am thinking of, but the types of companies that I am referring to give you an agent, then the agent negotiates deals with your credit lenders to lower interest rates, then they give you a flat fee to pay monthly and an estimated time of paying off your debt.

Some credit cards my offer no fees but still use an inflated conversion rate of Euros into USD. I would like a credit card that will not charge me extra everytime I use it in a different country.

I currently have one credit card and one checking account. My current credit card has an APR of around 12%. I just got an offer for another card with an APR of around 9%. My current credit card is maxed because I haven't been paid for work I've done this summer yet, but in about 3 weeks or so it will go back down to a $0.00 balance.

Should I get this other credit card to try to raise my credit rating?

I know that it is going to go down slightly because of the last 2 months statements on my current credit card. But if I do not accumulate a balance on my new card, only use it once or twice a month just so it's active, and keep my other card paid off as well, will this raise my credit rating? Or is having two credit cards a bad idea when you are trying to build credit?

Sometimes stores will charge me $0.25 or $0.50 for me to use my credit card. Some places do this only when my purchase is below a certain amount (under $5.00 and they charge you an additional $0.50), but some places do it for all credit card transactions.

What are the laws around this? I thought that it wasn't legal for businesses to charge me the transaction fee that they have to pay for accepting charge cards? I thought that they are required to build these charges into their prices, but that they couldn't just force me to pay them directly.

I owe a credita card money and they had sent my debt to a collections agency. Well I have no dinero whatsoever to pay this debt and they kept calling and sending me letters, I tried to send as much as I could but then I stopped because I had a baby and had no money coming in, they put a judgement against me and went to court and jacked up the amount. I recieved a letter about 2 months ago about them wanting the judge to put me in jail for 5 days for failure to fill out interogatorries sheet, I filled it out and sent it. The court date passed, I wasnt supposed to attend but I havent heard anything since,I have called them and they dont return my phone calls. I checked my credit report and it says charged off-- I dont know if they gave up or if something horrible will happen to me, any advice?

I would like to get a pre payment card, as i can't get an actual credit card & don't really want one anyway. Just wanted the pre payment card so i can purchase things online. Really annoying having to always ask a mate to do it for me! Don't want to be paying high monthly fees or anything like that, because as i said just want it to use online. Would be gratefull for your advice :-)

My problem is thatI share a mailing adress and the same name as my father. His credit is rock solid, but I am scared that having too many accounts on my credit report makes me look like a high risk. The accounts showing up on my report are credit cards with huge credit lines, but zero balances and he has had them for quite some time. From what I understand that makes me a credit risk if I factor in my couple of credit cards with much smaller balances.

I've already gotten my free credit reports from annualcreditreport.com but now I'm looking to monitor my credit score periodically from all three bureaus. I know that FICO is probably the biggest credit score service is their number that much different than what I'd get from the credit score source that Equifax, Experian and TransUnion use?

I just don't want to pay so much more for nothing. If FICO says my Experian credit score is 700 and I go to Experian.com and their service says my score is 692, I don't see the difference.

Thanks.

I'm 33 years old and in the process of rebuilding my credit from my reckless youth. I've paid off almost all my outstanding credit card debt and have a few new cards that I'm doing well with but I would like to watch my credit scores rise from all three reporting agencies (Equifax, TransUnion and Experian).

I know the score has gone up some in the last few months and my ultimate goal is home ownership so I would like to monitor them.

I went to myFICO.com but I believe that is a one-time kind of report/score. I'm looking for updated monitoring. Does anyone know of a RELIABLE company that will do this for me?

Thanks.

Also, I can't afford my bills so obviously, I wont be able to afford counseling services. Any info/opinions especially from those who have been in my situation would be helpful. Thanks!

I've had a full-time job since I was 15 and I have been the support system for my ENTIRE family since (no joke). Ok so i've leaned on my credit cards for everything: rent, groceries, books, tution, lunch, metrocard... everything for the past 2 years. Now the lousy job my mom had laid her off, she was helping me but now I do not know what to do... Every bit of me is stressed and I am almost tearing confessing this to the public. I honestly cannot sleep at night anymore and have anxiety attacks that results in over eating... I've gained 15 pounds over the summer alone... I cannot believe I am saying all of this but I desperately need advise. I am in my senior year at college and was hoping to go to law school but I just can't cope with anything anymore. Please help

I currently have 5 creditcards, 2 of which I use regularly because of cashback rebates. The other 3 have no rebates, but I've had them for more than 5 years. Is 5 credit cards too many?
