Therefore, if debt consolidation is a loan, wouldn't that mean that you need to have decent credit to get that loan? However, this sounds like an oxymoron: why do consolidation if you have decent credit? The only answer I can think of is if you've been paying the bare minimum on your debts and would like to pay it all off?

Me and hubby have decided to really crack down and pay off all debt. If you have, say, 7 credit cards (assume the interest is the same on all) and a few are around $1000, some say $3000, $6000, & $10,000. Would it be best (my opinion) to pay extra to the $1000 ones first until they are paid off then take the extra and the minimum and go to the next lowest card and so on. OR does it matter? My husband said if we pay extra to each card it comes out the same...

We are planning on buying a new house. We have enough money to put a 20% down payment. We also have credit card and car payment debt that is a little less than the 20% we could use for the house. The interest rate on the card is 4.99%. The car loan is 6.4%. The home loan will probably be 6+%. Since the interest rate on the credit card is less than the rate of the home loan, would it be better to put the 20% down on the house and then try to pay off the card and car loan in a few years or would it be better to pay off the card and car loan now and and just put 5% down on the house and have to pay PMI? Or maybe something in between like pay off the card but not the car (or vice versa) and put 10% down on the house. Is there a calculator out there somewhere to calculate the cheapest route?

Thanks...

For instance... I'm currently 597, which is considered poor. The scale states I need to be at 620 to be considered fair. I have two credit card bills that I'm paying off, one is $3000 and one is $2000. So in order to get those 24 points to be "Fair", how much money do I need to pay on these bills? Like if I pay $500 on the $3000 bill, will that give me the extra 24 points?

I don't understand how that works. Is there like a scale somewhere that shows how much you have to pay in order to get X amount of points?

When a company offers a statement credit, does that amount appear on your card free for you to spend or is it only applied to an existing balance on the card?

In other words, do you get anything if you have no balance?

Today in the mail I received a letter from a local mortgage company addressed to two people's names I've never heard of, but the address was mine exactly... I started thinking that someone might have tried to use my info or something so I called the mortgage company... they told me they bought a list of names and addresses of people who have recently applied for a mortgage... so why is this person' s name with MY address? Is this a simple mistake or might it be some sort of identity theft?

I am Active Duty military. I had an apartment and deployed before the lease was up. Under the terms of the contract I " terminated" the lease with proof of my deployment orders, I thought. The apartment complex cleared me and told me everything was fine. Then when I returned from Iraq, I ran a credit report and found that the account had been forwarded to a collection agency because I broke the lease. I have sent deployment orders to the collection agency and had no luck since trying to get in contact with an agent. I have also disputed with the credit agencies about this report and had no better luck either. I asked for verification but I think I need to ask for validation. Can I submit my paper work to the credit bureaus to try to clear it up or what other options do I have.
BTW- I even filed a BBB complaint agains the collection agency because they faile to cooperate any information to me.

I bought a car from Ugly Duckling in 2001. It fell apart in 3 months, and we gave it back to them. My last payment was in Feb.,2002. There is a statute of Limitations in Ga, of 6 years. The Duck sold their Accounts Receivable to Associated Receivables, in Augusta Ga, in 2005. We have gotten Interrogitories from them in Feb. of 2007. Can we expect that they will come after us before March when the SOL is expired?

I know its supposedly a credit myth that checking your own score and report hurts you, but lets say for whatever reason you want to check it everyday through a monthly service that offers unlimited checking for a monthly fee. Could this be a problem?
