On the accounts that i was a authorized user i took my name off before they became in defult. Some companys say i am not liable in any way, but i had a call today that said i would be . I go to court in a month for a divorce my husband has skipped the country. leaving everyone in a bind. But i don't think i am liable if i didn't sign anything or put up my social security number. I have a truly amazing boyfriend. He's literally everything I could hope for: smart (has his MBA), compassionate, supportive, generous, and stable. I'm completely mortified by this, but when I was younger, I was irresponsible with my finances and my credit rating went down as a result. I am working to clean things up, but I know that these things take time. He owns his own house and is very fiscally responsible. I have a feeling that this relationship is going to end up serious (i.e. moving in together/getting engaged). We've never discussed this topic and honestly, I don't want to bring it up! How do I craft an appropriate response when the time comes? I have everything else in my life together and have always managed things on my own...how do I deal with this? I am so scared that this could be a dealbreaker... He adores me and I know that I bring so much to relationship, and this is something that I am working so hard to rectify.

I had that card for almost 5 years and it was my first card of the two that I have ever had. I called the company and told them and they cancelled the number and gave me a new card.

My question is, because I got a new number, does this mean that my account with the credit bureaus will start anew and all the good history will become old since a new card/account was issued and the old one cancelled?

ok I had 4 credit cards that i stopped paying on back in 2003.
so on my credit report I have the original lendors reported it as charge-off with zero balance, then i have those 4 debts go to a collection agency with again a charge off with zero balance and "sold/transferred" in remarks. so in short i have 4 debts that was sold/transferred 2 to 3 times, and all of those collection agencies show up on my report. Now i finally got fed up and paid those collection agencies a total of $3200. Those collection agencies have reported those debts as "paid".
I already tried the pay to delete method and didnt work, they say that cant do that, i even tried to pay them a little extra to delete.
So my question is now that I've paid the collection agency that last had my debt, can i get the previous collection agency that had my debt from which it was "sold/transferred" from deleted?
If so how would i do so?
I want to buy an house in couple of months, so please guide me.
thank you

I've been reading some answers on here about prepaid credit cards and some want to say they are a complete ripoff. Oh, so credit cards aren't? They say this because of the fees. I could get a Visa Wired Plastic for $9.99 one time activation fee and $3.95 a month for maintenance. That's it. A measly $48.00 a year. Only $3.95 to reload. Same with Western Union prepaid Mastercard. Okay, why not buy a pair of $100.00 shoes, 7% sales tax, which would be $107.00 with a prepaid. With a regular credit card, they will charge something like 20%, plus they also have a minimum you pay every month. That would be $107.00 plus 20%, all to the credit card company. See the difference? Now who's the ripoff?

Thats all you hear people say, "Its to easy to get credit" I have certainly never found it easy, At 18 when my friends where getting tortured with credit card and loan junk mail I can honestly say I never received anything.

I tried to get a debit card from the bank at 18 again declinded, I tried to get a contract phone at 19 and only got one by putting down a £100 deposit, unfortuntaly I lost my job 6 months into the contract and was unable to pay, I missed payements for 2 months and then got myself back on track but since then I have found it impossible to get credit.

I'm 27 now had no credit since that contract phone but I can't get credit, I have been declinded credit cards,HP, even a mortgage a few years ago, it doesn't seem to matter a damn either I have quite a good salary.

I have checked my credit file and all is fine,

So I would say getting credit is certainly not easy, Oh 27 and still haven't even got a debit card, I still get declinded to this day

We both have pretty good credit, I've never had a late payment but have quite a bit of debt. My husband doesn't have nearly the debt I do but had some late payments about 3-4 years ago and has since paid those accounts off. So together we have fair/good credit but want to get better credit. What are some things we can do in the next 6-12 months that will help? We are trying to raise our credit scores because we want to refinance our home at a good rate. So, what's some good, sensible advice to raising credit scores?

I have the Citibank Platinum Dividend (not the Student version) card with a 18.99% interest. I think it is ridiculous to have a 18.99% APR. I have a great credit history although it is rather short (I am 21/student and started this card at age 18).

I have never been late and I always pay in full so it never really mattered to me. But I feel, after proving myself a responsible credit user for 3yrs, they should cut me some slack. My credit limit goes up every few months (almost $20,000 now) but the APR never goes down!

I called about it and they said there is nothing they can do now but call again in 2 weeks. This is the only request I've made in 3yrs. Should I just dump Citibank and go with another bank? I'm afraid my credit score would go down since this is my longest-running card.

Advice?

I have a baby due next month, at the moment I'm not working that many hours, and i still have some bills to pay, I don't have a lot of baby things yet, I just have enough to buy the NEEDS of my family and maybe go out once every two weeks (movies, mall). I really would like to take a loan out to buy some stuff before my baby is born and maybe use some to pay some bills, so i won't have to worry while i'm on maternity leave (with no pay I might add) but don't really know if it's worth it. can someone explain it.

how does it effect my credit?

This past week, my husband and I discovered that my husband brother had been working on cleaning up his credit. Here is the catcher, all of the derogatories that were on the brother's credit all of the sudden turned up on my husband's credit along with all of the aliases the brother used and the brother's addresses and the brother's business. I spent several hours going over my husband's credit report and highlighted all the items that belonged to the brother and wrote a letter to Equifax (the only bureau where this is happening) asking that the items be removed immediately. I also included a copy of my husband's birth cert., ssn card, driver's license and a copy of a recent bill with our mailing address. We have this feeling that the brother had disputed and told Equifax that all these items were my husband's just so he could get his score raised quickly. He informed us that he got an email from Equifax saying his credit had been repaired. He is also trying to buy a house.

I have a credit card that I simply use to collect airline miles. I'd like to keep the interest to a minimum or avoiding it altogether. They say that by paying off the card every month you can avoid paying interest.
What does that mean and how is it done?
Do I pay off the card before they close the period and send out my statement? Or do I wait until the period is closed and I have until the payment is due to pay the outstanding balance from the statement?

Thanks for the help.

Why is it that if you you get turned down for a credit card or loan or whatever, it brings down your credit rating?

Just been looking into getting a credit card, just for emergencies due my bank having IT problems and couldnt access my money.
My credit history is flawless and I dont want that ruined.
Why does this happen and how can you prevent it? I realise I could probably get 99% of cards, but what happens if I get turned down for one. How do I know what the criteria are?

This account has only been with the C/A for 4 months of which I have paid this exact amount. I want to thank everyone for your answers. I am going to look into a bankruptcy as I can't do it all financially. I will continue paying...In looking at my credit debt; I owe appx. $3500.00. And believe it or not...ive paid off some of my debt. I went from a full time job to a part time job. Big Sigh. Thank you all for listening and your advice.
