It can be done online.
Go to TransUnion or Experian.
Ones credit score is not free.
"FreeCreditReport.com" solicits membership for a fee.

http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the free credit report offered by the government. You get one free report from each of the three bureaus once a year. You can check them all at the same time, or one now and the others months later (rotating the reports from the different bureaus).
