The original creditor and "one" collection agency can report the same account at the same time. BUT if the collection agency is reporting, the original creditor MUST report a zero balance.

If both are reporting and the original creditor is not reporting a zero balance, you might dispute the original creditors tradeline with the CRA's.

Are you talking about reporting the debt owed as a collection on your credit report? Answer is yes, if the information is accurate and complete.

Or are you talking about reporting the debt as a chargeoff or collection, with the OC (original creditor), then passing it along to a CA (collection agency) who also will report the collection under the CA's name? Answer is yes, if the information is accurate and complete.

yes -- and just because a collection agency is handling the debt DOES NOT mean the original creditor wrote it off --- It is up to the debtor when they write it off the books and until they write it off it will likely show on your report because credit reporting agency generally just get a download of raw data from the debtor.
