I am looking to secure financing on an unexpected piece of property which came available.

Naturally, I will need a loan. If i obtain my credit reports, and pay off the closed account which are posted for collection, will that help my credit score enought to make a signifiacnt difference?
I have no car loans, nor do I have credit card debt...But I have a very poor score due to unpaid medical and various collections hitherto unpaid. Please advise what to do to get my score up enought to qualify for (even a high interest loan) I have the income..but need a mortgage. Also, will any more than 20 % downplayment have any bearing with a poor score? I have NEVER declared bankruptcy, planning on always "sometime" paying all my debts to those I owe!

When I made a large purchase at a department store, I applied for their card in order to get the discount they offered. But I have no intent to ever use the card. Should I officially close the account, or just cut up the card and throw the pieces away? What is best for my credit? - Thanks

Well during the end of summer last year I had somebody call me saying I owed on a best buy account which I do not have. I finally called & had that fixed so nothing more from them. But this afternoon I had somebody call me about my "mastercard" account something about I owe them so much money but thing is I do not have a credit card PERIOD, I do not care to have one & I don't have a debit card or even much money in my bank account. Thing is the people calling me asking for this money I have NEVER gotten a bill from so are there people trying to scam me out of money or somebody just giving them my name trying to get money from me, I know there can be people calling from 800 numbers that aren't "official" can somebody help me with what could be going on?

I have a friend who just got a notice from a creditor via the Sheriff's office. Is it true that if you just stop paying your credit card bill after 7 years it just falls off? He hasn't paid in 6 years- due to medical circumstances (he's not just avoiding it- so don't go there please). He's gotten advice like "if you don't pay it, after 7 years it will fall off-as long as you made NO payments at all" so now that it is getting close to 7 years, all of a sudden he gets this notice. Then he's heard, just pay a small amount like $1 a month and that will at least prevent legal intervention.
As stated before, he's not just avoiding it, but due to some medical expenses that he assits with for a family memeber, he just cannot afford to stretch the budget by even $20 a month.

What does everyone think?

Please no negative comments as I will flag them &/or report them. We really need some serious advice only.

thank you in advance.

I have a Bank Of America Visa card and intend to cancel it due to reports the bank is issuing credits cards to undocumented (i.e "illegal") immigrants. But I want to know what other banks are following a similar policy so I don't switch to another bank following a similar practice.
