My husband has a 797, and i was wondering how high you can go.

I think the highest you can go is 850. 720 is an excellent score, and should be a baseline for anyone who wants decent interest rates. Tell your husband to be careful and check his credit score often, as some credit card companies will actually put fictitious negative reports on your credit score with the sole purpose of keeping you away from their competition.
