I forgot to sign up for our office surprise birthday party, so by the time I remembered, I was the last one... which meant the only item left to sign up for was THE CAKE!

This is a large party - 40 people and now they want me to buy a cake to feed everyone!!! Everyone else is bringing in soda, chips, paper products, cheap dishes, now I have to go buy a $50 cake????

Hi - along with 100 other members of staff, I recently transferred from one employer to another when our organisations merged. The merger was covered by Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) legislation.

My job at the new company is on a higher grade than the job I had at the original company, and involves a lot more work. My salary has remained the same due to the transfer.

My current salary is LESS than the published minimum salary that the company pays for the grade that I'm on.

Due to the increased workload, higher grade, and more senior role of the new job, I asked my line manager six months into the new role whether I could have a payrise. He agreed and recommended to HR that I should receive a rise.

HR have said that they cannot give me a payrise due to TUPE - is this correct? It seems nonsensical, as if I left they would have to employ somebody to do my job on at least the minimum salary for the grade - more than I am on currently!

I have heard that it is just as well to be trained within the location since the bartending courses are so expensive. Also, how stressful is the job? I mean besides the initial difficulty of remembering the drink recipies is it a good part time job for those of you who have held it? I'm getting out of school soon and I just want something to supplement my income while I am looking for a job in my field. Thanks!

Recently I have gone to the HR department to complain about the dress code being enforced. We have several women in our office that dress provocativily and it is really disturbing to me as it is a law suit waiting to happen. I found out after going to the HR Manager 2 weeks ago, that she went to her HR Manager and he did nothing. So when I spoke to the HR Manager again, she said that it would be best to send it to her, her Manager and to his boss. So I did. I received a phone call today from the CFO who is in charge of HR and he basically told me to mind my own business. Isn't it my business if it offends me? Shouldn't the company DO something about the dress code if it is what is supposed to be enforced? I'm totally confused because I thought that ANY employee who had an issue has the right to ask that something be enforced if it is something that is legal and part of the company policy.
Help! :)

I recently accepted a position for a new job, it's at a country club and I was hired as seasonal help. I'm a college student,

Tomorrow, I'm meeting with my new manager to discuss my schedule and any days off that I might need this summer. I need a few days off and I'm a little wary about addressing this subject. I don't want to sound like a slacker asking for all these days off; however, all these events have been planned in advance and I can't really break my commitments for them. I hadn't planned on taking a new job this summer, until this great oppurtunity came along. As a result, I scheduled these events knowing I won't have an problem getting the days off, as my old job allowed me to take time off.

I need one day in early June and another in mid-August. In addition, my father is also having major sugery during the week of 4th of July. I absolutely must be at the hospital the day of the surgery and for the week he will be there recovering.

I graduated with my MBA in December and I also have a BS in Economics. I did not think I would have much trouble finding a job. I live in the Dallas area and have been trying to find a job using job search engines such as Monster, Career Builder, and Hot Jobs but four months later I am not having much luck. I went to school out of state and so the school's resources are not of much use to me. With the internet and technology I feel as if I am getting overlooked because of the number of applicants that can apply even from their current jobs. I tried walking my resume into local companies but most do not accept resumes in person any longer. I really need some advice to get noticed because I am afraid that soon I will have to take a job that I am overqualified for because my grace period for my loans is running out.
PLEASE HELP!!
