How much can a previous employer say about performance, why you left, and your position? I understand for most companies maintain the policy or the theory to get as much information as you can when inquiring about somebody, but give as little as possible when somebody calls to ask about a previous employee. What are the parameters of what they are allowed to say legally and in regards to liability? Does anyone in a Human Resource role know and how much gray area can occur?

Hello everyone,

I live in Thailand and I wanna be a Hollywood Actor, Film director/Screenwriter. I'm not rich but I've talents, I don't have enough money to spend for Acting or Film Making School in the U.S.A., where is the best and biggest Film Industry in the world.

It's much more harder to have the dreams that don't mesh with what my parents want. They won't afford me for it so I've to try by myself. Why don't I find a job? It's impossible to get enough money from PT job in developing country. That's why I've to apply for university.

Applying for Acting or Film in university here is a waste of time. Some said I'd better to try something else that give me more chances to find job in the U.S.A., then start my dreams.

Is it a good way? If it is, so what should I study in university that will give me more chances to work in the U.S.A. or Canada? I also have talented in writing and learning language. Should I apply for B.A. Russian? If you have any idea please let me know

I work for my cousin in a small (25-30 employees) pest control firm. I find that a lot of ppl in general don't trust us, think we're lying, think we don't spray when we say we do, all kinds of things. I'm not talking about our customers, they know we do right by them. I'm speaking of the reputation pest control has in general not our company specifically. when ppl first call us, that is their attitude, that they will not be treated fairly. my dad was in this business and taught my cousin and i , we want to do right. What can we do to redreate this misconception and do you think that your pest control company takes care of you?

Several months ago, I left a company I had been working at for over 4 years. It was a very good paying job and I felt I had always been a dependable, hardworking and dedicated employee. My year end reviews were good and my work performance was decent as well. However things started to go badly as a new VP took over and many folks were fired, let go, or bullied in to quitting. During this time I had a misunderstanding with a supervisor that didn't go well, and was basically asked to quit or be fired, so of course I quit. They made it very clear I was deemed "not eligible for re-hire" and I'm sure they are not going to give me a favorable review if potential employers contact them. Since leaving I started my own small e-commerce business, but need to go back to work to make sure I don't drain all of my savings and can continue to pay the bills. My question is, what do I do if I'm not eligible for re-hire by my previous employer and a potential employer calls them and relays this info?

I was just wondering how much money I could make if I was to fix (reformat, defrag, remove viruses, etc) an average Joe's (that don't know much about computers) computer?

I was thinking $50-$60 for a reformat (and install all software needed) or $20 an hour for defragging, etc.

The details haven't been worked out yet, but I was just wondering how desperate some people are for a "faster" computer.

Hi everybody,

I will be interviewing with a firm at the end of April and just have a few questions.

First of all, I am 22 years old, a very hard worker and will do whatever it takes to make it. I have just got into investments and the market over the last 9months and decided that this is the career for me. However, in college I got myself into some financial trouble. Living off of credit cards, young and stupid, I ended up having to declaire bankruptcy a month ago. The firm (a major one at that) I am speaking with does not know this but I am going to tell them during the interview if all goes well. Kind of drop a bomb I guess. Any suggestions on how I should give the news? Will the firm even consider me with BK? Or are my dreams shot?

Also, can anyone give any advice for someone coming into the field? I have read many articles on the subject but it seems that every article I read is a 'cut and paste' from somewhere else.

Lets say that I was your friend and I gave you information about an opening at my job and I tell you to apply. Would you go to the job and apply first then wait and see if you got the job and then tell your cousin that they are hiring or tell them to come with you. Because that is what my friend did. He brought his cousin and she got the job and he didnt. I was kind of upset because I was trying to help him out. I feel to get a job is competition and he added on to his competition even though it was his cousoin. I understand he was trying to help her get a job but I feel like I in a way wasted my time because after when he didnt get it he said he didnt really feel bad because he has a job and etc. I feel like I wasted my time telling him because he wanted to leave his job. I tried to explain how I felt so since he "claim" to be a model-Isn't it the same situation as if you were a model and your agent was to tell you she has a job for you? Would you tell your cousin or go to the job?
