If you are one of the last 2 applicants interviewed for the job and they turn you down because you don't speak Spanish; is that not discrimination?

where can I go like a college or school just for 3 months to learn something manual or anything that I can apply as a living but to make money too; I do not mean like be millionaire just to make a good living.

I honestly do not want to spend years going to school as I am not that young and I like being independent as not to have to deal much with too many people or work from home if possible.

A friend who just started a business a few months ago, called me and asked for help. He said he'd pay me for my time...

He's really busy, and asked if I could make some appointments, call people, setup interviews to hire help, email requesting information, etc.

Well, one of the people he interviewed just gave him their refrences.

He asked me to call them and gave me a few questions to ask…

I feel funny checking on someone I've never met. I think HE should call them because he's going to be making the decision on hiring.

What do I do?

After an inverview, the company seems to want me onboard. I was given an application form that has "your desired pay scale" to fill in. I had a rough idea about the range of the salary. Should I give a range or single number? I had a bottom line, but I don't think it is wise to tell them that. My current salary (at university, with great benefit) is so low that 30% increase is still not good, especially considering the living cost of the new location. Is it possible to get more clue from the VP? Or, is that a good idear to put "comparable to other employees with similar experience", which may tell that you don't know much? By the way, I really like the job. But I can afford to pass up this opportunity and stay put at my current position, while looking for some other potential positions.

I'm talking about education here...

I was a good student all the way through school and graduated with a first in modern languages from uni.

I decided a long time ago that I was just sick of studying. I didn't see the point of getting a masters just to be all intellectually vain and say that I have one. After all, you can't live under a piece of paper!

I didn't want to be a teacher/translator/interpreter - it just seemed so lame - but that's what I was being pushed towards and what people expect(ed) of me. They seem to act as if I failed in some way because I didn't capitalise on my education the way they thought I should.

I'm now working abroad in property sales in a fantastic company, with great workmates and good prospects. But even now people ask me why, with my qualifications, would I want to do a job like that?

What do they mean? Why can't they just mind their own business?

I've been working at this office for 8 months. One of my co-workers has been working there for at least 19 months. Everytime she speaks to her department manager or HR regarding permanent employment she's given the "we'll see what we can do" or "I'll get back to you on that". Are they allowed to treat her this way? Is there anything she can do? Thanks.
