I'm in the process of hiring an office manager for my small company. I've conducted a lot of interviews in the past for hiring people that do the same work I do but this is the first time I'm interviewing candidates for a position I know little about. Any good advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could anyone possibly enlighten me further towards a job title as "AV and Bench Engineer" in a company called Ramesys (www.ramesys.co.uk). Generally speaking, it provides ICT solution to educational organisation.

What exactly does an acronym "AV" stand for in this particular job role. Beside, what's "Bench Engineer" & what sort of duties would be expected.

Beside, does anyone around know much about Ramesys company itself, in addition to what's already mentioned on their website.

Present job description says:

"This is a nationwide role assisting and supporting Technical Engineers with the installation of hardware and software. This is a demanding position, for which over night stays may be necessary; this can range from 1 night per week to 2/3 nights per week depending on the customers requirements. This is a physical role, where you can expect that to be lifting and working with heights on a daily basis".

I'm curious as to why teacher unions are said to be so bad. All I hear is how wonderful they are because they fight for jobs. However, how about the teachers that have tenure but really should be retired??? Other than that reason, why are they not good?

I notice that large companies will have their entire I.T. departments comprised of Indians and I don't understand why -- at least this happens in the area of the U.S. where I live. Isn't that an equal employment opportunity violation or discrimination? Granted it's the majority of people, not minority, who are being discriminated against in this case, but it's discrimination none-the-less. Try getting a job in the I.T. field if you're Caucasian, African-American, or a woman. It's nearly impossible. Do schools in India consistently produce better educated computer scientists? Do the company's enjoy that Indians work without benefits and don't mind the poor job security a contract employee receives? I just don't understand why this happens?

My last job of 7 years started at $7.25 an hour. I worked my way up to almost six figures after being moved from maintenance to outside sales. The position I interviewed for starts at six figures and I am unaccustomed with protocol in this situation. He told me he was very impressed with my performance in the past and my interview, but one week later and no call back. What should I do?

I feel my supervisor is harassing me, he constantly is finding fault in everything I do, he went to personel because the tone of my voice was inappropriate when I was talking to another operator I work with. I had ear plugs in, just came in from the outside(it's -2 degrees here)freezing, and repeatedly answered a question 3 times to this operator. My supervisor and another personel rep were doing a safety audit on me when all of this happened. I am female, the others male and good friends. The same operator left me to run the process by myself all afternoon while he and the supervisor loaded their trucks with boards and other junk from the process. I am tired of this supr. treating me differently, in total there are 4 women and 12 men on our shift and 2 of the 4 women are constantly being harassed. I need advise, do I get a lawyer and pursue this or do I take it and hope I get thru to retire in 2 1/2 years? I just feel something needs to done to stop harassment in the work force.

I am a mother of 1 and one on the way. With my first child I was able to stay are home for 7 months with here. (This was only by the grace of god and my wonderful supportive parents)There is no way for me to stay home this time that long unless I am working from home. I had looked in to this in the past but was never able to find a job that I could work from home. I really like my present job but I don't want to have to miss my childern growing up. I went to work yesterday just like I have done for the past year and a half hour before quitting time, I was called into my supervisor's office. All three supervisors and a rep from human resources were there and I was informed that my position had been eliminated. I had no forewarning or anything. Now I'm going through the psychological trauma of trying to figure out how I am going to pay the bills and buy food for my daughter and me.
The reason for thinking about suing is because there are many other people there that don't have as much time in the company that I have and it would've made more sense for them to get rid of that person and keep me. Also on their intranet, there are job postings that I am qualified for. Why couldn't they just move me to another position? Do I have a case?

I started out at $9.00 and hour and I currenlty make $9.45 an hour...not that bad but considering I bust my butt, cover others butt by fixing stupid little things that they shouldn't have screwed up, constantly cleaning up after my co-workers, running accounts payable and soon to be receivable, the pay sucks. We have the General Manager and The Operations manager. Well the GM gives tasks to the OM who then gives most of them to me and I complete them with no problem! Workign as a Front Desk agent is like a babysitting job but I go above and beyond in my work, I always have and I feel I get no damn respect for it. I am married and have a daughter. I have worked here for so long that I requested I get weekends off and the OM complained about that because the other part time girls (who are twin sisters my age..19) needed at least one weekend day off. I simply said seniority (they have only been here 6 months) ontop of the other stuff I do here. I got my weekends not only (continued)
