I notice that large companies will have their entire I.T. departments comprised of Indians and I don't understand why -- at least this happens in the area of the U.S. where I live. Isn't that an equal employment opportunity violation or discrimination? Granted it's the majority of people, not minority, who are being discriminated against in this case, but it's discrimination none-the-less. Try getting a job in the I.T. field if you're Caucasian, African-American, or a woman. It's nearly impossible. Do schools in India consistently produce better educated computer scientists? Do the company's enjoy that Indians work without benefits and don't mind the poor job security a contract employee receives? I just don't understand why this happens?

While there are some very talented programmers from India, keep in mind that many of them can and will work for a lot less money. I personally think this is bad for our economy - it trims the bottom line for companies who hire foreign workers, but what people don't realize is that many of these workers send a large portion of their earnings back home to their families in India where wages are much much lower. Also, I know for a fact that a lot of help desks that were based in India moved back to the US when they realized the saving was not worth losing customers over. The communication and level of service from some of the offshore help desks are pretty low quality in my experience.

It's simply money. Outsourcing to overseas companies is so much cheaper than hiring someone at home, and with the internet tying the world together they don't lose too much in service. They can hire network engineers for what we pay typists, and that's why they do it.
