I recently saw an excellent position on a job website. The problem is that I don't have the experience they are looking for.

They are looking for someone who can just walk in and do the job, while I'm someone who has the basic skills, but will need some supervision and mentoring.

I did some reasearch and have discovered the name of the hiring manager.

I applied for the job online, but I'm guessing that I'll be screened out by HR as under-qualified

I'm thinking of snail mailing the hiring manager a letter in which I tell him that I'd like to work in his department, go over my qualifications, and tell him that I'd like to "grow into" the role that is being offered and or fill another position in his department. Of course, I'll include my resume.

What do you think? Would you write a similar letter if you were in my position?

I am applying for an internship in the conservation field. Most of the internships i have looked at involve educating about the environment, researching, backpacking...etc
As i was filling out the application a question was - Have you taken courses or have extensive experience with Biology, Botany, Geology...etc I am a sophomore in collage and have only taken one Bio course, so I can’t mark anything.
Also it had a skills section where asked -Do you have experience with or skills with camping, backpacking, identifying plants etc...I have experience with camping but only family things, so I really don’t have much experience at all. I was hoping to use this intern to gain experience; do you think they will even consider me?
-Thank you

I've just finished interviewing 6 people & I have about 25 more to go, between today & Friday. I'm exhausted. What are some simple easy questions I can ask to get a feel for their personality & skills?

I'm hiring for a Admin Assistant in a construction office.

Also when someone calls about the position (that is customer service oriented) and exhibit very poor phone skills & professionalism. What is the best way to tell them there is no way I'd hire them? (I don't like to lie, but I would also rather not hurt some strangers feelings if I can avoid it.)

I dont have her respect I know that for sure,,,,how do I handle a boss that is constantly questioning every breath I take,,,,???? any advice?? ohh,,I have tried asking her "why?" and she says "cause I said so",,and I have seen her make little mistakes that we all make, and I never confront her because I respect her,,,,how come I dont get the same respect back? I own a small business with 25 workers, last year was slow and we cut some hours no overtime. I purchased a 165,000.00 Ford GT with my own money. I have not told anyone at the company because I am worried about the shop talking. Things like times are tough and the boss buys that car ect. How should I handle it? the word will get out, one of my workers is a friend and I hid the car when he came out, cause I know he would spread the word in the shop. I know it's my money and I would't care if someone bought one, I would be happy for them, Today my General manager came in my office and saw my GT screen saver and said you should buy one of those. I almost told him but couldn't Looking for the best advise

I am fast approaching the end of my BA hons Accounting degree. I have only 3 months to go but am currently working in a graduate finance role exactly in my field. I can only work here for 2 weeks since i signed on as a temp and have to go back to university to finish my degree and was thinking that this experience has been worthwhile but its not been long enough - even though i have had 2 and a half weeks experience here. Will this actually look good when future employers look at this and my cv?

I worked for my brother for a week and he refuses to pay me. His company is owned by 4 men himself included. My brother drove me from Washington to California when the week was up and he refuses to pay me because he said that the gas alone was over the wages I was supposed to receive. Im wondering if there is anything I can do to get my money. I did not sign a w-2, as an employee I wasnt given one to sign. Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me get the money I worked hard for?

I have a coworker who tells lies about my quality of work to our boss. It's my word against hers. I avoid talking to her unless absolutely necessary and have to keep my voice low because it "bothers" her. She stabs everyone in the back that she works with, she's proven it time and again. I am not the only one she picks on, but I become her target quite often and don't even know what it was I did most of the time, if anything!
My boss seems to understand this woman's personality and our issues with each other, but never does anything about it- don't know there would be anything to do anyway?
My leaving is not an option right now, and I doubt she will either.
Any ideas on how to save my reputation around this woman?
Thanks!

I am now 51 and currently work as a medical secretary to a surgeon. I would like to find a residential job. I would a job where I get to give more hands on care and practice my social and interactive skills. I have done some teaching of basic skills to special needs and autistic adults in the past.

I enjoy working with people and am used to having to liaise with a wide spectrum of people and organise meetings.

I have a degree in literature and social studies. My children have grown up . My one downfall is that I do not have a driving licence. I would like a decent salary. Has anyone got any suggestions. My only other criterion is that it would have to be somewhere I felt safe!

My office is implementing several changes... scheduling, client database management, follow-thru check-ups, etc.

As much as I want (and will) implement these things, I know people will be slow to respond to these changes.

I need to come up with some type of punishment for the people who don't follow the plan. I could do the pay-a-quarter jar, but that's not a big enough cost. I need something inventive that isn't too harmful (I can't dock pay or vacation time), but something that gets the point across. Perhaps something that divides the office into teams (we have thirteen people on staff) that pushes the team... or maybe a prize at the end for the person who does best (as voted by the staff).

If anyone has any ideas to motivate people to follow the plan, that would be great as well!

Please, serious responses only. No dirty talk!
