I have a coworker who tells lies about my quality of work to our boss. It's my word against hers. I avoid talking to her unless absolutely necessary and have to keep my voice low because it "bothers" her. She stabs everyone in the back that she works with, she's proven it time and again. I am not the only one she picks on, but I become her target quite often and don't even know what it was I did most of the time, if anything!
My boss seems to understand this woman's personality and our issues with each other, but never does anything about it- don't know there would be anything to do anyway?
My leaving is not an option right now, and I doubt she will either.
Any ideas on how to save my reputation around this woman?
Thanks!

If your boss isn't taking care of the situation then you go to his boss--and if that boss doesn't do anything you go right on up the ladder until something gets done. Keep a written log every time she does something so you have some ammo. Tell your bosses that she's creating a hostile work environment. If you have any co-workers who also feel the same as you take them along with you when you go to make out a formal complaint.
That's another thing--if you work someplace that has a human resource department you can go there first if your boss isn't doing anything. They'll have you fill out some paperwork maybe so make sure that you bring your ammo along with you or you'll look petty and vindictive.

Don't feel bad. You should not have spread this around your friends. Stop talking about it with anyone other than your HR office. This gal is not your responsibility. If she needs a job, she also needs to learn how to do the job for which she was hired in a professional way. Your duty is to your employer, not to a messed-up co-worker. Now stop talking and obsessing over it. You did the right thing.

File a written complaint with your supervivor.
List exactly what your complaint is...don't use terms stab in back ect...

Just say--you want to inform management of this situation because her mental state seems to be getting worse.
they can speak to other ect--as they deem necessary...

You need to get it in writing before an incident occurs that could get you terminated...
