I work in a cubicle. Sitting about 7 feet behind me sits a very large, kinko's sized printer that makes a very annoying, constant "hum." To help me, I bought a white noise machine that makes a soothing "wooshing" sound. It totally blocked out the printer! Well, my manager, who sits right behind me, just came back from vacation today, and after she heard the white noise machine, told me that it bothered her, and asked me to shut it off. Now, I am back listening to the dang printer, and am very sad. Suggestions please? Thanks, and happy holidays

I think I'm desperate for a career change! I spent about 18 years in the Air Force before separating due to a disability. I am a contract negotiator and have a very good job and it pays very well. The problem is, I'm soooo unhappy. I've been out of the military for less than 2 years and I'm on my third job. Granted it is a good one, but nothing provides that structure, discipline and Comraiderie like the military. I don't know if I miss that, or if I'm just completely bored doing contracts and purchase orders....

The trouble is, my job pays very well....Can't afford a paycut....any thoughts on what I can do to make my career path better? I'm highly skilled at various things and have always wanted to have a career in public speaking of some sort....what do I do???

Whenever I have been asked to type anything up for anyone they always proofread it and then add their signature, but one of the supervisors has asked me to sign their name.
Even on invoices.
When other department heads ask me to write out an invoice or any request for their department THEY sign their name because they are the ones requesting it, not me.
This supervisor says they just don't like their own handwriting but that doesn't hold any water, in my opinion. There must be hundreds of instances where they must use their signature outside of work.

At the beginning of the school year I was fired due to decreased enrollment at the school were I taught. The other teacher who teaches the same subject that I taught ( only two of us) was choosen to stay on in that position. She is uncertified. She has not passed all the testing that my state requires. She is not a "highly-qualified" teacher accoding to the department of education in our state. She has worked in this position over a decade. I am "highly-qualified." I passed all of the testing necessary for certfication. I did not receive any bad evaluations. All of this information is on public record for my district to see. Why does she have a job? I could not find another teaching position on such short notice. I went back to school and enrolled in student teaching. I am happy to say that I am fully certified.
