I work in a cubicle. Sitting about 7 feet behind me sits a very large, kinko's sized printer that makes a very annoying, constant "hum." To help me, I bought a white noise machine that makes a soothing "wooshing" sound. It totally blocked out the printer! Well, my manager, who sits right behind me, just came back from vacation today, and after she heard the white noise machine, told me that it bothered her, and asked me to shut it off. Now, I am back listening to the dang printer, and am very sad. Suggestions please? Thanks, and happy holidays

Explain to her why you had the white noise machine and let her know the noise of the printer bothers you. See if she will allow you to move the printer or if you can wear headphones while you work.

Wow, that sucks. My boss hates my miniature space heater- I have to turn it off when she comes by my cube. Did you tell her that the printer bothers you?
My solution for office noise is a set of headphones. I go to www.whpw.com - a classical station out of NY and I listen to that all day.
If you don't like classical, I'm sure there's other stations out there, but this is the only one I found where I could use Windows media player (I can't put any other players on my computer)

Why don't you contact facilities regarding the copier machine. Perhaps if it is making a noise, something is wrong with the machine. If not and that is the way the machine is, then see if there is another cubicle availabe and move.

Get an iPod or a cheap ear buds and bring some CD's and listen to some music or get an ear plug.

You may also want to let your manager know that it's disrupting your work and make her understand your situation.

Tell your boss that the printer noise is distracting you from doing your job. Ask her for suggestions on ways you can block that noise (move the printer, let you wear headphones and listen to music, etc)

If your boss is no help, escalate to HR.

Oh and "WTF is PC Load Letter?"
