I have been working in my office for 4 years and until recently was very happy. I am a computer programmer. 4 months ago there was a reorg. I was chosen to work on a new project with new technology and pulled from what I had been working on. I did not know how to do the new work. They have put off sending me to training and the last 4 months I have basically done nothing but read technical manuals. I am just beginning to get the training I need. My boss has asked me to learn to use a piece of software. I started learning and made considerable progress but have run into a snag that I can't figure out how to solve. I searched on google, looked for help online in forums, etc. and still can't solve it. I told my boss and he said I needed to figure it out. He also told me had already solved my problem, but he wouldn't tell me the answer because he wanted me to figure it out. He told me to research a few other things. I have no background in these things.

? I've decided to quit my RN job, family out west are encouraging me to go out for 6 months, and work. I'm renting a nice place on river, but really there is nothing keeping me here. I will have to pay rent while out west. I have 1 friend here. Should I just go... so much prep.

I've been trying to become a model for many years. I have been to many auditions like Powers and Paul Mitchell to name a few. I was even chosen. Never once turned down. Thats my dream. I have no other goals that I am set on. I go to school, but keep changing my major. Not really interested in anything but modeling and fashion. Anyone with any advice. Its kind of hard because of the area I am from. I will have to leave town in order to be seen. But I have no cash. Any suggestions.

I have been offered a manager position at my company. The job pays about $23,000 more than I earn now. It will be a challenge but I've worked hard to earn it. Here's the problem. If I take the job I will not have time for the hobbies that I enjoy. I would be expected to work up to 50 Hours a week. One or more of my hobbies could be turned into a very enjoyable part-time business. The major reason for taking the job is that my wife could quit her job and spend all her time with our kids. If I don't take it, she would have to work in an unfulfilling job that she hates and our kids will continue to have to go to daycare. Any serious thoughts that people have would be very appreciated...thankyou

I was offered a position by two vice presidents of our university. It was to be a tranfer from one department to another. The position offer was also approved, in principle, by the university's General Counsel, the university's Controller, and by conversation with a current member of the university's Board of Trustees . It was announced to my co-workers in the department I would be leaving, and announced to the new area I would be joining. No voices of opposition were heard. I was actually taken to a specially called meeting of the department I'd be joining to discuss details of the transfer. I was paraded around like a prize sheep at the state fair. I made arrangements in my personal life for the new position. Several days later I was informed that the university president decided that the transfer shouldn't happen. I was greatly disappointed, saddened, hurt, and hugely embarassed. I still don't know why the decision was made. Do I have any legal recourse? We are non-union.

I am considering taking up interior design. What can you tell me about this field? I want to know both good and bad. If you are a student, please explain to me your experiences as to whether or not if the studying is hard because I have heard that you have to put in at least 30 hours a week of study time. And I would like to hear the views of people who work in the field. Has it been rewarding or a disappointment, please explain in details. I want only serious responses and only from people who are actually familiar with this trade.

If you are applying for jobs and interviewing for different jobs...they always ask: "Can we contact your current" employer? Is it safe to let them do this? Are they contacting them for employment verification or other stuff?

I am 16 years old and I have recently started thinking about getting a job somewhere. I think that it's time to take on some more responsibility in my life and kind of widen the gap between myself and my parents because it's going to happen anyways. Plus, I need some money. ^_^

So, where do you think I should work? (I live in a small, semi-rural town in Ohio.)

I've had several jobs in the past few months, some were direct hire while others were temporary, and I've noticed that I really don't get treated in a respectful and appreciative way. These jobs are all corporate office environment positions. I've been pressured to resign and I've had temporary assignments ended prematurely. I am a mature person with a master’s degree and I always have a positive attitude at work. I treat people with respect and I am always willing to help. I am not a confrontational person and after a little while at working at a job I always seem to rub at least one or two people the wrong way, especially my bosses. Am I being too passive? Should I be more confrontational in order to get some more respect or is it a question of finding the right place for me to work?
