I work in Human Resources, and I LOVE my job. It's great...sometimes I know more about people than they know about themselves. For example if they are about to get fired. LOL. Actually, I find that no one seems to even notice the HR Dept. until their paycheck is wrong or their benefits were cut off because they never bothered to send in their Open Enrollment forms, even though they had about 6 or 7 reminders.

It sounds as if I'm bitter, and I'm not really, but I do love all the day to day interactions with staff, and the fact that you never know what the day is going to bring you....you could have your whole day planned out, and then the phone rings, and BOOM----time to go put out a huge fire! I love the fact that no two days are the same. And I learn something new every day. Pretty cool.

I managed a short-term project and by everyone's account I did a wonderful job. I would love to mention this position when I interview. The problem is my boss was very unprofessional and disrespectful to me at times and even though she offered to be a reference when I left, I want nothing to do with this person ever again. How do I explain this in an interview if they want to speak with her? I know that is is normally best not to say anything negative in an interview; however, it is my nature to be very straightforward about things. I'm sure many people have had this problem. It really bothers me that my boss had to be such a jerk. Any advice?
Thanks in advance.

The company I work for moved me to Illinois 16 months ago. In return, I signed an agreement stating I would pay back relocation if I left within 2 years. Moreover, all monies have to be paid back within 1 month of my leave date. I made a BIG mistake and didn't read the fine print. It turns out I have to pay back EVERYTHING if I leave before the two year period. This job has been awfull and it's to the point that it starting to make me physically ill. I can't afford to pay back the money because the salary is not comensurate with cost of living expenses and I have wracked up a bunch of debt just by trying to keep a roof over my head and gas in the car. I approached HR about my concerns which has only caused more friction between myself and management. I feel so trapped. Is there any way I can get out of the contract?

My co-workers drive me nuts. I've tried blocking them out, I've tried ear plugs, I've tried being honest...nothing works. These people clip their finger-nails @ work, chew their lunches with their mouth open, pronounce EVERYTHING wrong (Illinois is a biggie, and when I say it right they all give me a blank stare like "Why didn't she say the 'S' ?"), burp, talk too loud, slurp constantly and of course have not a clue how to dress for work (well, that would also require shopping outside of Wal-Mart). Not trying to sound like a total snob, but day in and day out of this open-mouth chewing, burping and rudeness is getting to me bad. Any suggetions? Oh, by the way, my boss is the same way, so no reason to report anything and I have to stay in this position for at least another year.

Recently there have been a lot of changes going on at work. One of them being, that another completely separate dept. has demanded that I spend half of my day working in their dept. They have even transfered equip. over for me. Buy doing so, I will have to neglect certain duties for my own dept. as well as spend a lot of effort trying to keep what I'm doing for each dept. in order. This change comes without much explaination, without a raise and I won't even have an office to use, like i do in my current position. My own manager is confused as well, but is the type that likes everyone to be happy, and is trying to be accomodationg to them as well. I've discussed my concerns which she shares, but doesn't seem to have much power to control. Do I have a right to say no, I want to stay where i'm at? Should i go to HR? Please help if you have any advice, I'm young and not very experience with the professional world yet.

I started a new job a month ago. I was so happy because I finally got decent pay and health insurance. Unfortunately, this was too good to be true. One of my coworkers smokes in the office. I have asthma and am allergic to cigarette smoke. Everytime she lights one up, I start smothering. I told my boss in person about my health condition and all he said he'd do is put up automatic door closers on the doors around her (she smokes in the doorway of the building so she can stay by the phone). Well, about 2 or 3 weeks went by, and he'd still not put anything up. I decided to email him and tell him again. I asked him if he could ban smoking indoors completely. Well, finally he decides to put those automatic door closers on there. But guess what, she props her door open! It's terrible!

Anyway, have any of you dealt with smokers at work. How do you get someone to stop. The bad thing is, my boss is a smoker too! So he doesn't care! If they don't stop, I'm going to have to find another job!

I always find my Co- workers whispering and chatting quietly when I am on my way back from lunch or the ladies room. What should I do? I like my job don't get me wrong but I hate when people talk about me. At the end of the day when I left I found one of the girl over my desk laughing at something that was there, when she was me at the elevator she quickly turned around and pretended like nothing happened. What do I do??????

I'm thinking of pursuing a career in real estate. What is involved education-wise, what are the ups and downs? What kind on money can you reasonable expect to make? Also, I am 28 yrs old and married with 3 kids, we are currently living well below the poverty level, and I have bad teeth (please, no jokes, this is something that I am really sensitive about) would I have any hope of getting a job in real estate?
