I'm thinking of pursuing a career in real estate. What is involved education-wise, what are the ups and downs? What kind on money can you reasonable expect to make? Also, I am 28 yrs old and married with 3 kids, we are currently living well below the poverty level, and I have bad teeth (please, no jokes, this is something that I am really sensitive about) would I have any hope of getting a job in real estate?

Do your self a favor and don't even consider it.

95% of what is going to make you is your marketing of yourself, no market = no income. Plan on aboout saving 6 months of income before you start.

Unless you can capitalize on your "Austin Powers" smile - I would not waste my money if I were you.

There's money to be made but you work more evenings and weekends than anything else which means less time with kids and husband. Appearances are very important in sales positions of any kind so as a general rule, the more expensive the things you're selling, the more important the keeping up of appearances. There are classes you take then continuing education classes to keep up to date on the changes. Talk to at least one real estate agent in your area and see what they have to say.

I have seen Real Estate Agents that came from absolutely nothing and make something big of them selves. Public Image is a big thing but as long as you have a great personality Image becomes less of an issue. Depending on what state you live in there are different agencies that license agents. In most states you have to go through the Department of Real Estate to get your license. In California you must then do 12 hours of continuing education to get your permanent license. For CA go to the DRE website (www.dre.ca.gov) and it will explain the requirements to get your license. I'm not sure what it costs to get you license but I'm sure you can google department of Real Estate for what ever state you are in. As far as the amount of money you will make really depends on how much you can sell and how much you can list. Real estate is based on commission.
