I was gonna say they may not be talking about you , however the incident with the woman peeking at something you've written at your desk and then laughing is truly ignorant.
Go to your immediate supervisor and tell him/her that you're uncomfortable and that you didn't appreciate that person looking at something on your desk and then laughing about it . Her behaviour in the elevator tells you she knows she was wrong.
If nothing's done about , go to his or her supervisor.
But make sure you document every incident.
Some people are ignorant and childish and have nothing better to do than gossip and make fun of people despite being ' so called ' adults.
Do the job to the best of your ability, stick it out if you can, they may eventually find another new target, but then don't play that game if they do. Remember how it felt and don't be ignorant like they are.

Dear Gucci,
Why don't you take the bull by the horns and confront these people? Ask if there is something that is bothering them about yourself. As for the girls by the desk, you should have gone up to here and asked "What's so funny, I could use a good laugh about now>" If you don't confront them you will never know. I'm sure there is someone in the office who finds you nice.

Know that they are all probably jealous of your beauty and wish that they were like you. They are all insecure within themselves, and in order to make themselves feel better they have to make someone else feel bad. It sounds like the same things that I have had to deal with. Women can be ridiculously harsh and c ruel when it comes to dealing with other women. Certain women flock together and when they see a beautiful woman, instead of appreciating her as a beautiful addition to their everyday, boring lives, they have to let their insecurities and resentments (for not being you) shine through. These are people that we must feel sorry for and try to find ways to be ourselves with, anyway. You can only do so much for them, and if they never change, they never change. If after a while it continues to go on, then it's best probably to just ignore them and concentrate on your job, possibly advancing above and beyond where they could ever go. Remember, it's not you, it's them. Have a great day, beautiful!!

ignore the childish antics. you're new, which means potentially dangerous. you could be better than them and take their jobs, at least in their minds' eye.
why not ask some of them to lunch and take some time to get to know them? and remember one thing: while it's great when coworkers get along and like each other, there is no requirement that such be the case. you need to be colleagues and have a functional work environment. if these people are truly petty immature imps, focus on your job. you'll succeed and climb to a level where you find people more "real".

It might take awhile to fit in especially if the current crew has been together a long time. Otherwise your not in their click at the time... if it doesn't get any better then confront some of your co workers in plain talk an ask What's the problem guys!

I would ask myself what am I doing to give these people reason to treat me like this. Remember, it takes two to Tango ... Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution?
You may be over reacting; thinking they are talking about you when they are not ... which, based on your actions, would give them more reason to talk about you.
I would work hard at treating them with respect and having fun with them. People reap what they sew.
I have NEVER worked anywhere where I wasn't able to get along with my co-workers. You are there just to do a job .. you don't have to live with these people or build a relationship with them ... you just have to do your job and that's it. Make sure you actions are in the best interests of the company and it's customers. End of story.
If these people still are treating you bad without you giving them any reason to; then I would confront them about it. Tell them you want to be a part of the team and ask them what you need to do to make that happen. If it still dont improve, ask your supervisor to help you become part of the team.
YOU are in control of this situation .. not your company, its supervisors, its customers or your co-workers .... YOU have to make it better for yourself.

It's possible that one of them, or someone they know, wanted the job that was given to you, plus the office biddies can be very territorial. Just ignore them, but if they are going through your desk or messing with your work, speak to human resources about it.
For some people, work is their only social outlet. Just remember that even when or if they become friendly, they are not your true friends. When something hits the fan is when you usually find that out.
Enjoy your job, do your work, better than they could ever be. It's the best revenge.

yeah that sucks...but there's really nothing you can do other than ignore them or get in good with the cute guy (they all think is cute). Or you can just out shine them in the work process...that will make the hate you even more, but maybe you will get promoted to be their boss and then slowly and surely you can just "replace" them with more efficient and positive workers."
The last would be my goal....lol I've done it before. Or you could just look for a new job.

ok......obviously, these people are really immature. If they're old enough to be working then they're old enough to be mature and not play childish games. My advice is to act like you don't hear them or kind of give them the whole....."thats so immature" look and MAKE SURE TO LAUGH OR SMIRK at them showing them that your much more mature then them. AND ALWAYS go on with whatever you were doing with a smile, so,in a way, you make them feel immature! Just get that look on your face that says "man, these guys are so immature" it gets them every time! Weather it makes you upset or not, don't show it, show them how immature they are (without even saying anything) and maybe they'll grow up a little!
GOOD LUCK

Well, is there something about you they have a reason to laugh about? No, I'm not saying you're ugly or have a booger or something, but maybe it's the way you dress. Do you dress professionally? Maybe you dress too provacatively?
If it's not something like that, what was on your desk that they could laugh about. o.O Ya know what, next time they're laughing at you, go up to them and laugh and say, "Hey guys, what's so funny?" I mean, the only way to solve a problem is to confront it.
