I have a long term assignment with a company that rents office space on the East Coast. I am the only employee in this office as they only need it a few times a month.

I discovered a leak in the ceiling. I have a container catching liquid and I have fans going over the carpet. Before I got there, about 10 feet of the carpet was soaked with water.

The land lord him self is away, his assistant is there but does not seem to want to deal with me with out him there.

Do I have to make them come up and look?

Should I ask that the carpets be cleaned?

Since I am not permanent here, I don't want to come on too strong. Yet I want to do a good job for the company. I have told my boss about this. She is waiting for more news on the status.

How would you handle this?

My boss says he can't keep me on. I would have to wait for awhile for me to be hired. In the meantime though, I have dozens of job offers but I like it here. What should my next step be?

I bust my butt at my job and am always busy and working hard. In the rare moments where my work is done for awhile, I go and help my coworkers with some of their stuff, which is what we're instructed to do. I have a female coworker who sits around and plays card games for hours after lunch everyday. What angers me is that there were two positions open, and she got one with no prior experience in our industry while she'd only been hired a month before me. I have a bachelor's degree and am older than her but also had no prior experience in the industry, but she got one of the good open positions and I got shot down by my boss because she said she wanted someone with more experience in the other position. So she hired this other girl who had 4 years experience into the position that my lazy coworker got with no prior experience. I've secretly taken pictures of this lazy coworker and jotted down the dates and times she's plays games at work. What should I do??? Should I tell my boss?

I want to e-mail them to ask if they are still considering me but I want to sound professional.. what do I write? And because of the holiday I think they might be a little maybe backed up... maybe I should wait?? By the way, I already sent them Thank-you letters. Please help... I REALLY need a job!.. Thanks in advance and have a great day!!

I'm in a relatively senior position of some responsibility and while I don't have any plans to have kids, it could happen one day. My company would really suffer without me and I'm sure they would punish me by changing my role or by sacking me on some other pretext. Its an engineering firm and I'm the only female engineer. Some of my colleagues have already made comments along the lines of how unfair it is that women get 'holidays' to have kids and that they think women should choose between a career and a family. Funny, men don't have to make that choice!
