It's really up to your employer, but the standard for full-time, Monday to Friday, 9 - 5 workers is that, if the holiday falls on a weekend, you get Friday or Monday off with pay. Part-time workers usually are not compensated if it falls on a normal day off.
If you work weekends and are usually off on weekdays, you usually do not get an extra day off if the holiday falls on your day off. However, as I said, it is up to each employer. There is no law stating that they must compensate you for holidays either way.
