Seems like every day I read again about a future budget over-run for the fed, for the states, even in my town saying they blew the plowing budget for the year after the first storm.

Today Yahoo has an article about how most states are not setting nearly enough to fund employee retirement promises. We are going into deep over-runs due to our wars - on Iraq, on Afganistan, on Drugs, on Poverty, etc.

I am not saying we should stop funding, but every year, every day, we add a little more debt, raise taxes a little more.

At what point will we hit an economic limit to make this not viable.

I am not saying get rid of taxes like the "nut of the day". I am asking what is our financial limit, because we seem to working towards it?

Another way to put it - if we are taxed at a net rate of about 50% now (argue that if you want, it is not my point) and people say times are "tough", what happens when we need to raise it to 55% or 60% or 70% to cover all this stuff?

. . . .about ARMs and how they function? i keep hearing in the news how the government is supposed to step in and stop these ARMs from adjusting upward and freeze rates where they are still in their introductory phase, but WHY?

when you sign on to an ARM, you are told how the instrument works. you are given a CLEAR explanation of what it is. i have to say: i think it's irresponsibility on the part of the borrower; not the lender.

i DID start this question with 'can anyone expain to me' and i mean it. i'm NOT a finance expert or someone even in the business world. and before someone starts accusing me of being 'upper class and cold,' i guarantee that 98% of the people reading this question earn more money than i do. I'm a school teacher and musician, so i'm just above the poverty level. but i was very careful when choosing my mortgage and buying my home. is there really more to this than what i'm seeing? explain...please.

We have an adjustable mortgage w/a balloon at the end. Our current interest rate is 7%. We pay $2119 a month ($1654 plus $465 for taxes). Beneficial is trying to get us to refinance with them. They have offered us a fixed rate loan at 11% with $9,000 cash out, a $15,000 "personal credit line" and they will pay off $14,000 in bills ($3k for our car, $1k NYS taxes, $10k student loans). The problem is the new payment will be $2828 and that DOES NOT include our taxes. Beneficial keeps making it sound like it is a big help to us but I don't see it. I think $2828 a month is a HUGE payment that we might not be able to make. The $10k in student loans they are paying are not even due for another 2 years so that isn't reducing my monthly debt. I guess my question is ...does anyone here think this is a better situation than what we have now?

It's 2007 (very nearly 2008). It's been around for over 20 years. Could it be that it would mean correspondence could be tracked and logged and there could be no excuses for incompetence and delay? I was asked to FAX something yesterday. It's a joke.

I have a good-paying job but I want to take care of my family's needs (good food, clean clothes, neat home, etc.) so I am looking for a home-based job. My cousin told me most internet-advertised home business is a scam. They're just interested in you buying their product/s. Can you recommend a legit home business in the internet?

Because of this missed closing date, we now have numerous expenses due to lost wages, hotel bills, etc. We cannot close on our house down south until we close in ny. Are we owed any compensation from the buyers? When we asked our lawyer he said tough luck. We're talking almost $600 and it's adding up quickly.

I'm filling out job applications...usually you can list 3 or 4 previous employers. I have a choice between an earlier employer that gave me a great performance review and a later one that gave me a so-so one (the manager was a bit nuts). Both of these were 3-6 years ago. Probably neither place remembers me, but I was wondering if they'd still have any records. If they still do I'd prefer to list the earlier job, if not I figure it will look better if I just list my most recent jobs without a gap. BTW, these were entry-level low wage jobs and the app is for a similar job.
