I have been presented with an opportunity by my company (based in the US) to move to their Brussels office. I have read on several websites that the income tax is insanely high in Belgium and was wondering if I can do anything to offset it. Are there any tax breaks associated with being an expat? If so, how do I exercise them? If not, how do people normally live when more than 50% of their income goes to the government? I currently live in CT, where cost of living is relatively inexpensive, and I am only taxed 25%.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had absolutely no national debt; had the largest middle class in the world and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

We have a small motor home/RV parked in our driveway. At least two other families in our neighborhood have RV's on their property as well.

However one of our neighbors complained to the city that we should not be allowed to have it parked in view of the street because it is so big and it is only used on vacations which are not frequent.

We were told we had to move it by the city or face a fine. However one of the gentlemen from the city who gave us this info said that it was possible that there was a grandfather clause that might make it possible for us to keep the RV parked in the driveway.

a dividend check for $171.00 from one of his life insurance policies. The account I set up to close out his affairs was closed last year. It's made out to him directly. How can I get this cashed? I don't want to have a new check reissued, because then it would be issued to his trust, which no longer has any checking accounts associated with it. I'm at a loss as to what to do here.

I want to refinance my current home, but I am also planning to purchase a new home as my primary residence. The broker handling the refinance told me not to mention anywhere that I would no longer be living in the home, and that as long as I occupied the house until closing, it would be okay to call it my primary residence. While reviewing the closing documents I realized that I signed papers stating that I would occupy the home, and that I would not rent it out. (Renting the home is in fact my intention). I don't know if this is illegal, or if so, how serious it is. I have until midnight on 12/18 to cancel the refinance, should I?

The company I work for keeps the office temperature way too high. I wanted to see just how hot it was in the office, so I recently brought a thermometer into my cubicle. It said the temperature was 79 degrees, which is WAY too hot for comfort! The next day, someone turned it down to 73, which is a fairly comfortable temperature, and people were complaining that it was cold. That afternoon, the temperature was lower, and people were saying that it had warmed up a little. I wanted to tell them that it was actually colder in the afternoon than in the morning. The day after that, the heat was back up to an unbearable level. Today, it is over 80 degrees! I can't function or concentrate on anything...all I want to do is get out of this. It is literally hell being here because the heat is so high. I don't know how to get people to keep the heat at a reasonable level. Please give me ANY suggestions. I don't think I can handle this for much longer!

Last two paychecks, I noticed I was getting an extra $200. Today, I accounted for that $200 based on less taxes taken out for Federal and State. The reason? They changed my exemptions from 1 to 9! Obviously I want to change this back to 1 but as far as the extra money I received, do they take that back or do I account for it in taxes?

My partner has a house under her name, though her mother pays the mortgage and for all intents and purposes owns the house. The mortgage and deed are under my partner's name however.

When we apply to buy a home together, this being my first home, what effect will that other house have on us financially? Specifically, will a lender penalize us because of the other house? Will this affect the rate we get? Will this affect the amount of credit offered to us?

Assume we are married, the other house is legally separate property, acquired before marriage, and being paid with separate property funds.

Also, what effect would it have if the first house has a mortgage balance that exceeds the current appraisal value?

My friend, Wenni had been called, and told that she would be given a free cruise if she went to a meeting. She went to the meeting and was given an application to send in for the cruise. She was given a contract to sign (not told it was a contract) and just told to sign here and here, she did so thinking she was signing up for a club. That would allow here to go on vacations etc. (was not told it was a timeshare) Later on she sent in her application for the cruise, (did not kno they were in Canada) so go there one day late. She recieved a letter saying she could not go because of this. She was told at the meeting that she could get 2 free weekends at the Windsor Country Club, she tried to get this one day, she called the supervisor Michael and he never called back. During this time they were taking money out of her account. She gave them 1k at the meeting, and they took $150 a month. She stopd access 4 months ago, and they are saying she signed a 10k contract and that its uncancelable

We get an average of 5-7 calls per week from companies offering long-distance alone.

Is there a way to stop them from calling in Canada? I know we don't have that registry they have in the States.
