I know there's that gift amount, but I forgot what it is. It's a small piece of land.. 1268 square meters according to our tax bill and it's assessed at a little more than $26,000. If we donate this land to my sister in law and her husband, do my husband and I have to pay any kind of tax? Thanks!

I heard the general rule of thumb for a down payment of a house is 10%. Is that generally true? I'm sure it depends on a person's credit, amount of years the loan is for, etc. I wanted to know if this is true because my friend said that used to be the case, but not anymore. Houses are so expensive now, most people wouldn't be able to afford one because their down payment would be too high. I live in West Maui, a studio is $300,000. A 3 bedroom house is $600,000.

Ok, THIS is the FULL question I am wanting to ask, the main one above is NOT the one I am officially asking,...

Question: I live in the UK, and I want to make an official complaint about,.. (NOT to),.. deviantart.com; is there an official body/dept'/association/ombudsman etc, who deals with taking complaints about websites?

If so,.. how do I get in touch with them? Is there a website that is specifically set up for such requirements? Is there a governing body that has power over websites in the USA for site also based in the USA? *I'm assuming the Deviantart.com servers are based in the USA.
Any help would be appreciated; but PLEASE,... PLEASE,.. only respond if you KNOW what you're talking about. Thankyou!!

Our understanding is that "short-term disability insurance" covers any injury, ailment or other medical condition that causes you to miss an amount of time from work defined in your policy as "short-term". My wife was taken from work to the hospital by ambulance. Surgery was performed. Her personal doctor prescribed 6 weeks off from work. She had been treated a couple years earlier for similar heart palpitations. However, the issue was not over whether or not her insurance would cover the actual treatment. She purchased the short-term disability insurance as a supplemental policy to cover unforseen circumstances that caused her to miss work - and income. How is it that the insurance company can refuse to pay citing "pre-existing condition" under these curcumstances?

If a credit card is reported lost, stolen, or deactivated and thus "hot carded" and an attempt is made to use it at an ATM and the ATM seizes it, not giving it back, does that ATM operator charge the bank/credit card company for each seized card? If yes, what fee is charged to the issuer of the card?

A friend of mine who is currently serving in the Navy, gave me a set of $2 for my 12th birthday.10 years later, I am starting to wonder if they are actually worth anything. From what I can tell, they are series 1976 $2 bills and I figure they should be worth something because they were discontinued in that same year also we celebrated our bicentennial birthday. Does anyone know how much they're worth or at least point me in the direction of someone who might know?

Folks on this site talk about how home values went up (in part) because interests rates have been so low over the last decade. This was stated because lower interest means folks can afford a higher payment and it is not home price, but ulitmately the payment that gauges affordablitiy.

I am not sure how it has been elsewhere, but in my town our taxes (in real $) have doubled in the last 3-4 years, with no change in services and a crappy school system. I know that fuel has gone up and some folks got raises, but they have doubled!

Does this increase in taxes (in my case about $3000) not decrease the amount that the next buyer can afford each month and therefore reduce the market value of your home?

I am trying to figure out what would be better option wise and price wise between a mobile home, purchasing a home and having a home built. I am looking for a round about price for these. I just want a single family 3-4 bed 1-3 bath. Also, it would be cool to have a basement, so 2-3 stories. And a yard. I am a first time home buyer, so all of this is really new to me. I am looking to find something within 2008. Thanks

When I look up what age you can start withdrawing from your 401(k), I find the answer "59 1/2 or separate from service." I understand what age 59 1/2 means, but what exactly is "separate from service?"

Does this mean I can receive money from my 401(k) at any age as long as I am quit working?

I have been thinking about different careers I want to do. I am interested in the medical field but not so much with dealing with the inside of the body. (no guts! somewhat weak stomach!) And I panic too easily to be a nurse. I am terrible at math and I have never taken Anatomy or Chemistry so I don't know if I am good or not. Does an Radiology Technician require a lot of science and math? Please help by suggesting more careers as well.
