A friend of mine who is currently serving in the Navy, gave me a set of $2 for my 12th birthday.10 years later, I am starting to wonder if they are actually worth anything. From what I can tell, they are series 1976 $2 bills and I figure they should be worth something because they were discontinued in that same year also we celebrated our bicentennial birthday. Does anyone know how much they're worth or at least point me in the direction of someone who might know?

When you say "set", what do you mean? A set of uncirculated Series 1976 $2 bills from each of the 12 Federal Reserve districts would be worth about $40. Individual $2 bills in average circulated condition are still worth little more than face value.

Legally thet're still worth only 2 dollars
These are the kind of thing that you should keep hold of for your grandkids, at some point they may be worth a decent sum-age, collectable value, relative rareity.
Or, you could find a coin collector in your area (Check the yellow pages) & ask someone who actually knows....

They are worth $2 each which is much less spendable now than it was 10 years ago, unfortunately. If he had given you gold, it would be worth more.

Oh well.

PS: They are not collectible yet.

If they are in mint condition you would be lucky to get $5 each, I would hide them away and forget about them for another 20 years, see what they are worth then.
