A certificate from an accredited hospital-based program is sufficient. It takes the same amount of time as an associate, but it is usually much cheaper and you get better training (in my opinion).

I went through a hospital program. Now just for the heck of it, while working as a registered tech, I am continuing to take classes to get my bachelors degree. This is just in case I want to go into management someday, but it doesn't make me any more money or make me a better tech.
