I got my first paycheck this week and was shocked to see how much taxes I had to pay. Anyway, my employer didn't give me any form to fill, and I have a child to claim as a dependent. Can I get the money returned when filing taxes or would my net pay be higher if I would claim a dependent now?
Can you claim a dependent somebody who lives in the same household with you, but is not working and is not related to you?
Thanks.

I left my job in March so no longer make contributions. My husband will be 50 in Jan. and can retire from his state job. He can increase his pension by "buying back" 2 years of his military service time to go towards his service to the state. I need to know if there will be enough left out of my 401k to buy this service credit.

I've got qualifications, and am a good reliable and enthusiastic worker but have a dead-end customer services job. Whatever I try to make extra money seems to fail and I have just been hit with a few large bills that have knocked me back just when I thought I was getting by. I don't want to be a millionaire, just do OK. Is it my mindset that is letting me down? Other areas of my life are fine - I have a nice wife and kids, but just want a bit more security.
I live in Spain and work in Gibraltar. I am English.

I own rental property, not by choice, last year I had to replace the roof and the plumbing in the house. If it was not for the deductions there is no way I could have afforded this.

I took out a line of credit with my small business. Unfortunately the business put me in a lot of debt and is now over. I am unemployed and cannot pay on my line of credit right now. Should I file for bankruptcy? And if so is this debt dischargeable?

what would be the reasons a company would string you along as far as employment goes. this company says i have the job barring the background check, well its been 7 weeks now, i have even given them oppurtunitiys to be honest with me, i told them the company if there not interested i will move on, but they still say they want to hire me, barring the background check. why would a company string someone along like this??, i just dont get it. i mean its simple we either want you or we dont. please help out with your thoughts on this???

Applied for this news producer job, and they have been teasing me for a month now. First resume was sent in, than interviewed, than they ask for references, then references confirmed form sent to them and sent it back. Now they want me to fill out an application, so beyond being a twisted pretzel of nerves, just wanted to know why they make you jump through so many hoops. And if you think I got the job?

I work at a very small company. I've been here for over 2 years. I know that my boss and the owner have been interviewing people, and have been very quite on letting me in on any info. Should I just give two weeks notice now or let things play out and see if they offer me any type of severance? I'm afraid they will fire me for something and give me a bad reference if I don't go out while I'm ahead. Help please.

Hi guys,

I am facing a unique situation and you could give me some advices to solve this problem.

Simply saying, I have ordered some DVD movies from a Swedish shop, but they took the money and they are not sending the merchandises so far.

First of all, they ship their movies only to Scandinavian countries, so my order was out of ordinary to their business.

So I phone called a staff working in the shop, and he said he will send me the movie.

At first, I only ordered one, but over a week and half past, he never sent it to me.

So I phone called him again and asked him to just charge it on my credit card and send the DVD.

Then he told me that since this is not usual to ship outside of Europe, I need to buy some more movies, so that they can have some profit.

So, I ordered two more DVDs. But another week has been past, yet he still did not send them to me.

During all this, I phone called him nearly dozen times, asking to send them to me.

Q1: What to do now?
Q2: What to do, if I want to sell some of my stock July?
I have to pay the estimated tax for the last two period?

P.S.: I don't want to pay penalty tax!
